Directions

Preparation

  • 1. Use damp cloth to wipe basket. Spray with varnish. Base entire outer surface Black Green. Tape off 1/2" border along top and bottom of basket; base Hauser Dk. Green.
  • 2. Adjust pattern to fit surface; print pattern. Transfer basic pattern lines onto surface. Transfer details as needed.
  • 3. Use #14 shader and thinned Lt. Buttermilk to add checks on top and bottom borders. Remove tape.
  • 4. Base all leaves and stems Hauser Med. Green and lilies Lt. Buttermilk.

Painting Instructions

  • 1. Refer to worksheet and use pattern as guide to shade (///) and highlight (xxx).

Leaves and Stems

  • 1. Use Hauser Dk. Green to shade along stem end of each leaf; float down leaf center, then leaving a thin space float down center again. (Note: Space between floats is main vein.) Use #8 shader to float secondary veins. Float Hauser Dk. Green on leaves around lilies and to define flips on leaves.
  • 2. Float Hauser Dk. Green along left side of each stem and where stem connects to lily; place a float any place one stem or leaf overlaps another. Use Black Green to deepen shading where stem or leaf is behind another stem, leaf or lily.
  • 3. Use Hauser Lt. Green to highlight along right side of each leaf. Drybrush highlights on bottom leaf and on far left leaf with flip. Use same color to float highlight along right side of stems and along edges of leaf flips. Brighten highlight where one stem lies over another.
  • 4. Use liner and Lt. Buttermilk to dot leaves.

Lilies

  • 1. Float very, very sheer Payne's Grey shading along inside of each lily avoiding inside top (refer to pattern). Use same color to shade where petals overlap; shade bottom right of three "whole" lilies then shade along left side of bud and remaining lily. For top whole lily, float Payne's Grey under outer petal to establish curve.
  • 2. Use Snow White to highlight inside top edges of lilies. Use liner and same color to brighten around edges of top lily and along curves of top edges of remaining lilies.
  • 3. Use Yellow Ochre to add very sheer float along bottom of each lily; drybrush light touch on inside of each lily. Use Honey Brown to deepen shading along bottom of lilies keeping float much smaller.

Flower Centers

  • 1. Base centers Yellow Ochre; shade Honey Brown along bottom and left side. Use French Vanilla to highlight along right side being careful not to go into shading. Use liner and Snow White to tap in highlights on top right.

Tints

  • 1. Use wash of Honey Brown or Yellow Ochre to tint leaf edges here and there.

Finishing

  • 1. Use gold leafing pen to paint trim along top and bottom edges of basket.
  • 2. Apply several sealer coats over entire surface.
