Clay-Covered Piggy Bank
- Recycled plastic water bottle (with cap)
- AMACO Cloud Clay: White, Brown; Assortment Packet: Red/Blue/Green/White
- Toothpicks, two
- AMACO Acrylic Roller (or clay-dedicated rolling pin)
- Heart cookie cutters: 1”, 2”
scissors, ruler, plastic wrap
- On clean work surface, remove clay from packages. To condition, roll clay separately in hands until soft, bending and rolling until pliable. If clay cracks, keep conditioning.
- Roll white clay with small amount red clay to create pink color.
- For legs, cut two toothpicks in half. Roll four 2” pink clay balls; wrap balls around toothpicks. Let dry. From pink clay, roll two 1-1/2” balls (ears), one 3” ball (snout), and 1/2” ball (tail). Set aside.
- From remaining clay, use acrylic roller to roll pink clay into 1/4”-thick sheet. Wrap clay sheet around water bottle, smoothing edges. Insert legs into bottom of water bottle. Let dry.
- Use craft knife to cut slot (through clay and water bottle) on top of pig (for coins).
- Press ears on top of head, snout (formed into square shape) on front of head, and tail (formed into curled log) on back of body. Smooth edges.
- Roll brown clay into 1/8”-thick sheet. Use heart cookie cutters to cut shapes from brown clay. Press hearts on pig’s body.
- Roll two skinny brown clay logs (nostrils), two small brown clay circles (eyes), two small white clay circles (eyes), and two tiny blue clay balls (pupils). Press nostrils on snout. Flatten brown circles; press white eyes and blue pupils on circles. Press eyes above snout. Let dry.
