Crochet Birdhouse Towel Topper

Materials

  • Cotton yarn, 4-ply: white, red
  • Plastic ring, 1-1/2”
  • Coordinating-print dishcloth
  • Coordinating-color thread

Tools

  • Crochet hook, size H
  • Sewing needle

  • 1. 4 rows = 1”

For Front of Birdhouse:

  • 1. With white, work 20 sc around plastic ring, join with sl st in first sc, do not turn. (20 sc)
  • 2. Row 1: Sc in next 5 sc, ch 1, turn. (5 sc)
  • 3. Row 2: 2 sc in first sc, sc across to last sc, 2 sc in last sc, ch 1, turn. (7 sc)
  • 4. Row 3-13: Repeat row 2, at end of row 13, fasten off. (27 sc)
  • 5. Row 14: Working in back loops only, attach red in forth sc of row 13, ch 1, sc in same sc, sc in next 20 sc, ch 1, turn. (21 sc)
  • 6. Rows 15-30: Working in both loops, sc across, ch 1, turn. At end of row 30, fasten off. (21 sc)

For Back of Birdhouse:

  • 1. Row 1: Attach white in unworked sts of plastic ring corresponding to front 5 s18, sc across, ch 1, turn. (5 sc)
  • 2. Rows 2-13: Repeat as for front of birdhouse.
  • 3. Row 14: Working in both loops, attach red in 4th sc of row 13, ch 1, sc in same st and in next 20 sc, ch 1, turn. (21 sc)
  • 4. Rows 15-30: Repeat as for front of birdhouse.
  • 5. Row 31: * Front side has unworked loops.
  • 6. With front side facing, attach white, with sl st,in side if row 2, holding both pieces together, ch 1, sc in same st, sc evenly spaced down side of roof, sc in back loops of 3 unworked sc of row 4, sc down side of bird house, now through front piece only, (opening for towel), sc evenly spaced up other side of birdhouse, sc in back loop of 3 unworked sc of roof, sc evenly spaced up side of roof, sl st to join in side of row 2. Fasten off. Secure loose ends.

For Eave of Roof:

  • 1. Row 32: With front of birdhouse facing, attach White with sl st in unworked loops of row 14, ch 1, sc in sl st and in each sc across. Fasten off. Secure loose ends.

For Hanging Loop for Towel:

  • 1. Turn birdhouse inside out, fasten yarn around 1st post st of row 14, ch 15, sl st around last post st of row 14, turn, sl st in each ch across to first post st, join with sl st. Fasten off. Secure loose ends.

For Hole:

  • 1. With white, ch 4, work 11 dc in 4th ch from hook, sl st to join in first dc. Fasten off. Secure loose ends. With sewing needle and matching thread, sew hole on front of birdhouse as shown. Insert towel.
