Tail

  • 1. With White yarn, ch 18. Sc in second ch from hk and remaining chs. (17 sc) Fasten off, leaving tail for attaching to body.

Variations

  • 1. Note: To make pink or black kitten, follow directions for white kitten except for parts indicated below.

Black Kitten—Back Legs (make 2)

  • 1. With Black yarn, ch 2.
  • 2. Rnd 1: 5 sc in second ch from hk. Mark first sc for beg of rnd; move marker up each rnd.
  • 3. Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in each sc around (10)
  • 4. Rnds 3-5: Sc in each sc. Stuff. Fasten off, leaving tail for sewing.

Pink Kitten—Body

  • 1. With Fuchsia yarn, ch 2.
  • 2. Rnd 1: 6 sc in second ch from hk. Mark first st for beg of rnd; move marker up each rnd.
  • 3. Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in each sc around (12)
  • 4. Rnd 3: *Sc in next 1 sc, work 2 sc in next sc; rep from * (18)
  • 5. Rnds 4-7: Sc in each sc
  • 6. Rnd 8: *Sc in next 1 sc, sc2tog; rep from * (12)
  • 7. Rnds 9-10: Sc in each sc. Stuff.
  • 8. Rnd 11: Dec 1 in each sc rnd. Fasten off, leaving long tail for sewing.

Pink Kitten—Front Legs (make 2)

  • 1. With Fuchsia yarn, ch 6.
  • 2. Rnd 1: 5 sc into ch sts starting at second ch from hk, ch 1.
  • 3. Rnds 2-3: Ch 1, 5 sc
  • 4. Rnd 4: (Note: Paw is created by making bobble in last stitch of Rnd 2, which is just above final stitch of Rnd 3.) YO; put hk in last st of Rnd 2, YO (pull up lp), YO, pull hk through 2 lps. (Note: This leaves two loops on hook.) Rep process 3 more times, ending up with additional lp on hk each time. After fourth time, total of 5 lps on hk. YO, pull hk through all 5 lps. Fasten off, leaving long tail for sewing; sew end closed. Sew bobble closed for paw.

Pink Kitten—Back Legs (make 2)

  • 1. With Fuchsia yarn, ch 6.
  • 2. Rnd 1: 5 sc into ch sts starting at second ch from hk
  • 3. Rnds 2-3: Ch 1, 5 sc. Fasten off, leaving long tail for sewing. Sew one end of tail closed through last row of 5 sc and first 5 sts.

Finishing

  • 1. Attach ears to top of head using coordinating-color floss.
  • 2. Using photo as guide, cut eye shapes from felt. Adhere eye shapes together and onto face using fabric glue.
  • 3. Backstitch nose and mouth on face using 3804 Cyclamen Pink-DK for white kitten, 310 Black for pink kitten, and 326 White for black kitten.
  • 4. Attach head, legs, and tail on body using coordinating-color floss and embroidery needle. Knot and clip thread ends.
  • 5. For white kitten’s hat, cut 1-3/4” Chartreuse felt circle. Hand-sew running stitch 1/4” from edges; pull thread to gather ends and knot to secure. Roll pea-sized amount of white wool roving into pom-pom shape. Use needle-felting needle on foam to needle felt pom-pom into tight ball. Adhere pom-pom on top of hat and hat onto head using fabric glue.
  • 6. For black kitten, cut 6” ribbon length and tie around neck into bow. Trim ribbon ends.
