Sledding Snowbuddies

  • 1. To make snowman bodies, use serrated kitchen knife to cut a thin slice from top and bottom of 6” ball, and from bottom only of 5” ball. Adhere small ball to top of large ball for large snowman body. Make small snowman’s body in same way with 4” and 3” balls. In addition, slice section from large snowman’s tummy and small snowman’s back so bodies fit together.
  • 2. Cut legs from tights. Gather tight leg and pull toe over large snowman’s head, then pull tight leg down over body. Pull together tightly at center of bottom body; trim excess, leaving 1” at bottom. Use pencil point to carve hole in center bottom of body. Apply glue inside hole; use scissors point to push excess fabric into hole until fabric is tight and smooth. Repeat for small snowman.
  • 3. For legs, use Fig. 1 as guide to cut wide end from each egg. (Note: Eggs should sit at angles pointing away from snowmen.) For legs, place 3” eggs into adult socks (large snowman) and 2-3/8” eggs into newborn socks (small snowman). Fill remainder of socks with stuffing. Fold open ends back inside socks; adhere and pin to bottom of body. (Note: Toes should point away from hips as shown in Fig. 2.)
  • 4. For small snowman’s arms, fill newborn socks with stuffing. Fold open ends back inside socks; adhere and pin to body with arms pointing up. For large snowman’s arms, fill adult socks beyond heel with fiberfill stuffing, stretching slightly while stuffing. Fold open ends back inside socks; adhere and pin to body.
  • 5. Place small snowman in front of large; adhere and pin large snowman arms around front of small.
  • 6. Place hat on large snowman’s head. For small snowman’s hat, use Fig. 3 as guide to cut medium crew sock. Turn inside out; sew opening closed 1/4” from cut edge. Pull sock over head; adhere 1”x12” white felt strip over hat edge. Adhere snowflake sequins to tips of hats.
  • 7. For facial details, adhere noses to faces as shown. Paint eyes, eyebrows, and mouths black. Drybrush cheeks pink; adhere sequins to cheeks. Tie ribbon around necks for scarves.
  • 8. To make sled, use hot glue gun to adhere end of craft foam sheet around jar lids, creating curved front of sled. Use pencil to poke two holes in upper corners of front end. Insert silver cord from outside through holes; knot ends inside to secure. Decorate sled with greenery and ribbon as desired. Position snowmen on sled.

Tip

  • 1. If you are unable to locate plain jar lids, cover the tops with bright blue contact paper, fabric, or paint.
