  • Head pin.
  • Seed Beads: pearlized pink; white; amber.
  • Jump rings; large, two; small.
  • Silver closure.

Tools

  • Fuseworks™*: Microwave Kiln; Kiln Paper; Glass Cutter.
  • Hot Mitts.
  • Needle and matching thread.
  • Needle-nose pliers.
  • Distilled water.

Directions

STEP 1

  • Use glass cutter to cut 1”x1-1/4” rectangle from clear and white sheet glass. Clean glass with wet paper towel. Use lint-free cloth to dry and wipe dust.

STEP 2

  • Cut 2”x2” square from kiln paper. Remove lid from Fuseworks™ Kiln. Place kiln paper on kiln base.

STEP 3

  • Layer glass on kiln paper. Place white glass rectangle on kiln paper, and cover with clear glass rectangle.

STEP 4

  • Carefully set base with glass inside microwave. Cover with kiln lid.

STEP 5

  • Follow Chart #1 to fuse glass. (Note: All microwave and kiln combinations have different firing patterns. Take careful notes and log all fusing times for future use.)

STEP 6

  • After fusing, open microwave and use hot mitts to carefully lift lid enough to inspect fusing process. Add more time in 30 second increments until desired results are achieved if needed.

STEP 7

  • Remove kiln from microwave using hot mitts and place on a heat-resistant surface. Cool kiln for at least 30 minutes with the lid on. (Note: Removing lid or peeking under lid while cooling results in cracked glass. Glass remains hot for a long time and house be handled with great caution.)

STEP 8

  • Cut desired decal to fit surface of pendant. Place decal in distilled water for approximately 30 seconds. Decal should slide off backing paper easily. Slide decal onto glass so side facing backing paper is positioned against glass. Use paper towel to pat moisture from decal and glass. If air bubbles appear, push them out with finger. Let dry completely.

STEP 9

  • Follow Chart #2 and Steps 2 and 4 to fuse glass.

STEP 10

  • Check glass. If decal appears as a white silhouette, continue fusing at 100%, adding an additional 15 seconds to the time until decal looses white appearance. When you are able to see color and definition of decal, the fusing process is complete. Remove kiln from microwave and let cool 30-40 minutes without removing lid.

STEP 11

  • When glass is cool, clean piece with glass cleaner or alcohol and dry thoroughly.

STEP 12

  • Peel 2-3” of paper backing from copper foil tape. Hold foil with adhesive side up and center glass edge on foil, leaving equal amount showing on both sides. Wrap perimeter of glass in foil. Burnish tape to glass with side of pencil or pen by pressing firmly against tape. Avoid scrubbing to prevent tears.

STEP 13

  • Lay piece flat on heat-resistant surface. Apply flux to copper foil. Unroll 6” length of solder. Heat solder with tip of soldering iron. Apply thin layer of solder over all foiled edges of glass. (Note: This process is referred to as “tinning”.) Let glass cool.

STEP 14

  • Use pliers to twist small eyelet at top of small solder scroll to 45° angle, making two. Place both small scrolls lengthwise on heat-resistant surface, next to glass piece. At point where scrolls touch pendant, apply flux and solder in place.

STEP 15

  • Place two large solder scrolls horizontally at the bottom of the glass piece. Apply small amount of flux and solder in place.

STEP 16

  • Loop a large jump ring through each of the small scroll eyelets; add a drop of flux and solder closed.

STEP 17

  • Slide seed beads onto head pin, leaving 1” at top, for a loop. Bend end of pin over to form a loop, twist remaining wire to secure loop for hanging.

STEP 18

  • Attach head pin with beads to center bottom of large solder scrolls using small jump ring.

STEP 19

  • Thread both ribbon lengths through large jump rings at top of pendant. Fold ribbon end over approximately 1/4”, fold again 1/4” to create a finished edge, and tack with thread. Repeat on opposite end. Attach jewelry closures to ribbon ends.
