Directions

STEP 1

  • Note: Use photo as placement guide throughout.

STEP 2

  • Preheat oven to 275°F. Test temperature with Oven Thermometer for perfectly cured clay.

STEP 3

  • Remove drawers from chest and any existing knobs from drawers. Paint chest Denim Blue; let dry.

STEP 4

  • Follow manufacturer’s instructions to condition clay; use Acrylic Roller to roll each color into 1/8”-thick sheet.

STEP 5

  • Use Clay Tool Variety Set knife to cut three Butterscotch, three Denim and three Sedona shapes to fit drawer fronts. Place shapes on baking sheet. Use fingers to gently smooth and round corners.

STEP 6

  • If needed, re-roll Butterscotch, Denim and Sedona clay into 1/8”-thick sheets.

STEP 7

  • Using Medium Rose Petal cutter from Shape Makers Floral Set I, cut three Clover petals and two from each remaining color. Gently loosen petals from work surface using Lift ‘n Scrape. Brush back of each petal with Bake & Bond before gently pressing to contrasting clay panels on baking sheet. Using Clay Tool Variety Set ball-head shaper, make seven shallow impressions down top half of each petal, one in the center and three on each side.

STEP 8

  • Repeat Step 6 using Small Rose Petal cutter; brush backs of small petals with Bake & Bond and press to medium petals. Make five impressions in each petal; use pointed end of shaper to make three detail lines at bottom of each petal.

STEP 9

  • For each drawer front, roll two small and two medium teardrop shapes from same clay as small rose petal. (Note: Roll all teardrop shapes before applying to clay panels to ensure uniform sizing.) Brush backside of each shape with Bake & Bond before pressing to clay on each side of layered petals. Use ball-head shaper to make shallow impression down larger end of each teardrop. Use pointed end of ball-head shaper or knife edge to make decorative line border around each clay panel.

STEP 10

  • For knobs, roll three medium-sized Clover balls and two from each remaining color. Use ball-head shaper to make shallow impression in center of each small petal. Apply a small amount of Bake & Bond in each impression and gently press balls to petals, flattening tops slightly. Use pointed end of ball-head shaper to make decorative starburst pattern on top of ball. Roll three small balls from each color of clay except Clover; press to larger balls, matching small ball to clay panel. Use Clay Tool Variety Set needle tool to poke tiny hole through center of small ball into larger ball for stronger bond.

STEP 11

  • Bake clay pieces on an oven-proof glass or metal surface at 130°C (275°F for US Consumers) for up to 30 minutes. Do not microwave. Do not overbake. Remove from oven and allow to cool.

STEP 12

  • Once cool, use paintbrush to apply Antiquing Medium to clay; wipe away excess with paper towels. Glue clay drawer fronts to wooden drawer front.

STEP 13

  • Clean hands, tools and work area with soap and water.
