Cherry Tree Pendant

Materials

  • Black wire: 16, 20 and 26-gauge
  • Red Chip Beads (Blue Moon)
  • Ruby Luster Czech glass seed beads
  • Ribbon or chain, 1/4”-wide, 22” length
  • Lobster claw jewelry closure and jump ring (if using chain)

Tools

  • Wire cutters
  • Pliers: chain-nose; round-nose
  • Optional: Bead board

Directions

STEP 1

  • Using wire cutters, cut a 9” length of 16-gauge wire.

STEP 2

  • To make frame, place round-nose pliers 3/8” from one end of cut wire. Using chain-nose pliers or fingers, grasp end and bend wire at 90-degree angle.

STEP 3

  • Place round-nose pliers 2” from first bend. Using chain-nose pliers or fingers, bend wire at a 90-degree angle to create the bottom rectangle frame.

STEP 4

  • Place round-nose pliers 1-1/4” up from second bend. Grasp end with chain-nose pliers or fingers and bend wire at a 90-degree angle.

STEP 5

  • Place round-nose pliers 1” from third bend. Wrap wire around round-nose pliers to make a loop at top of pendant.

STEP 6

  • Place round-nose pliers 1” away from loop. Using chain-nose pliers or fingers, bend wire at a 90-degree angle. This creates the last corner on rectangle frame. Trim excess wire. Wire ends should meet so that rectangle frame is completely closed.

STEP 7

  • Cut an 11” piece of 20-gauge wire. Wrap wire around lower right corner of rectangle 2-3 times to secure in place. Continue to wrap along lower right side and bottom right side, approximately 1/2” on both sides. Lay free end of wire diagonally across rectangular frame. Secure free end of wire to upper left corner by wrapping wire 2-3 times. Trim any excess wire. This is the first branch.

STEP 8

  • Cut an 8” piece of 20-gauge wire. Wrap at base of first branch in lower right corner to secure. Continue to wrap up base of branch. Attach to upper rectangular frame approximately 1/4” to right of top loop. Wrap 2-3 times to secure. Trim any excess wire.

STEP 9

  • Cit a 4” piece of 20-gauge wire. Again, secure to lower right corner. Continue to wrap up the base of branch. Attach free end to middle left side of rectangular frame. Wrap 2-3 times to secure. Trim excess wire.

STEP 10

  • Cut a 3” piece of 20-gauge wire. Secure to middle of lower branch by wrapping 2-3 times. Attach free end to lower left corner of rectangular frame. Wrap 2-3 times to secure. Trim excess wire.

STEP 11

  • Cut a 12” piece of 26-gauge wire. Neatly wrap wire around lower right corner and continue up base of tree. Neatly cover the corner and base of tree completely. Trim excess wire.

STEP 12

  • Cut six 4” pieces of 26-gauge wire. Take one piece of wire and string on 2-3 chip beads. Twist wire ends tightly together to secure beads in a cluster. Attach beads to branches by wrapping wire 2-3 times around wire branch to secure. Trim excess wire. Repeat five times.

STEP 13

  • Cut four 4” pieces of 26-gauge wire. Take one piece of wire and string on 4-5 seed beads. Twist wire ends tightly together to secure beads in a cluster. Attach beads to branches and near chip bead clusters by wrapping wire 2-3 times around wire branch to secure. Trim excess wire. Repeat step three more times.

STEP 14

  • Cut five more 4” pieces of 26-gauge wire. Take one piece and string on 5 seed beads. Twist wire ends tightly together to secure beads forming flower shape. Continue to twist wire ends to the end, creating a stem. Attach the twisted stem to a branch on the pendant to create more twig-like branches. Repeat this step four more times. If pendant is unbalanced, wrap more wire around higher side until balanced.

STEP 15

  • String pendant onto ribbon or chain. If using chain, attach closure at ends.
