Square (make 80)

  • 1. With A, chain 3; join with slip st in first ch to form a ring.
  • 2. Rnd 1 (RS): Ch 1, work 8 sc in ring; join with slip st in first sc, turn—8 sc.
  • 3. Rnd 2: Ch 1, [sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc] 4 times; join with slip st in first sc, turn—12 sc.
  • 4. Rnd 3: Ch 5 (counts as hdc, ch 3), [skip next sc, hdc in next sc, ch 3] 5 times; join with slip st in 2nd ch of turning ch and change to B in join, turn—6 hdc and 6 ch-spaces.
  • 5. Rnd 4 (WS): With B, ch 2 (counts as hdc here and throughout), Beg-Petal in first ch-space, ch 2, Petal in same ch-space, ch 2, [(Petal, ch 2, Petal) in next ch-space, ch 2] 5 times; join with slip st in top of Beg-Petal—12 Petals and 12 ch-spaces. Fasten off.
  • 6. Rnd 5 (WS): With WS facing, join B with sl st in any ch-sp, ch 2, Beg-Petal in same ch-space, ch 3, [Petal in next ch-space, ch 3] 11 times; join with slip st in top of Beg-Petal and change to C in join, turn.

Assembly

  • 1. Join Squares Lengthwise: Arrange squares in a grid of 8 rows of 10 squares each. Join rows together as follows:
  • 2. Join Rows 1 and 2: Holding neighboring squares so that the wrong sides are together, and working through both loops of both thicknesses, join D with sc through any corner ch-1 space of first pair of squares (first square in Row 1 and first square in Row 2), ch 2, skip next 2 dc, sc in next dc, [ch 2, skip next ch-space, sc in next dc] twice, ch 2, skip next dc, sc in next dc, [ch 2, skip next ch-space, sc in next dc] twice, ch 2, skip next 2 dc, sc in next corner ch-1 space, *ch 1, sc in first corner ch-1 space of next pair of squares, ch 2, skip next 2 dc, sc in next dc, [ch 2, skip next ch-space, sc in next dc] twice, ch 2, skip next dc, sc in next dc, [ch 2, skip next ch-space, sc in next dc] twice, ch 2, skip next 2 dc, sc in next corner ch-1 space; repeat from * across row—80 sc and 70 ch-spaces. All ten squares of Row 1 should now be joined to all ten squares of Row 2. The remaining edges of the squares are not yet joined. They will be joined later.
  • 3. Join Rows 3–8: Join squares of Row 3 to squares of Row 4 in same manner as squares of Row 1 and Row 2 were joined, Join squares of Rows 5–8 to squares of previous row in same manner.
  • 4. Join Squares Widthwise: Join remaining edges of squares in similar manner as lengthwise joins. When a corner between squares is reached work the ch-1, taking the work over the previous ch-1 at the corner) and continue joining the next pair of squares.

Finishing

  • 1. Edging: With RS facing, join D with sc in any corner ch-1 space of throw.
  • 2. Rnd 1: Work 2 more sc in same corner ch-1 space, ch 2, skip next 2 dc, sc in next dc, [ch 2, skip next ch-space, sc in next dc] twice, ch 2, skip next dc, sc in next dc, [ch 2, skip next ch-space, sc in next dc] twice, ch 2, skip next 2 dc, *sc in next ch-1 space, ch 1, sc in fi rst ch-1 space of next square, ch 2, skip next 2 dc, sc in next dc, [ch 2, skip next ch-space, sc in next dc] twice, ch 2, skip next dc, sc in next dc, [ch 2, skip next ch-space, sc in next dc] twice, ch 2, skip next 2 dc; repeat from * around; join with slip st in first sc. Fasten.
