Directions

Gardening Tools

  • 1. Prepare garden tools by removing foam handle covers, if needed. Spray paint tools black.
  • 2. Follow manufacturer’s instructions to condition clay.
  • 3. Use Acrylic Roller to roll out 1/4”-thick sheets of clay by length of tool handle and 1” wider than circumference.
  • 4. Use Texture Maker to apply texture to each panel. Use finger or water mister to slightly moisten clay. Place Texture Maker on clay and apply pressure with Acrylic Roller. Remove sheet and gently dry clay with paper towel.
  • 5. Re-trim panels if shape changed when applying texture.
  • 6. Paint tool handles with Bake & Bond where clay will be applied. Wrap clay panels around handles, overlapping ends. Use Super Slicer to cut vertically through overlapping layers. Remove excess clay. Gently press seams together.
  • 7. Roll out strips of clay from coordinating green. Roll design along length of clay using texture roller. Use Super Slicer to cut strips out along edges of design and long enough to wrap around handle of tools at end of clay wrap. Make two strips for each tool.
  • 8. Apply Bake & Bond around ends of clay wraps. Apply decorative strips to both ends of handle wraps, trimming seams as described in Step 7.
  • 9. Bake clay embellished garden tools at 265°F for 30 minutes; let cool.
  • 10. Follow manufacturer’s instructions to apply Antiquing Medium. Apply Satin Glaze.
  • 11. For hangers, thread ribbon through handle holes and knot.

Tin Planters w/Leaves

  • 1. Preheat oven to 275°F. Test temperature with Over Thermometer for perfectly cured clay.
  • 2. Follow manufacturer’s instructions to condition clay; roll each color into 1/8”-thick sheet.
  • 3. Very lightly moisten clay sheets. Press Shape Makers Large Oak vein texture into Antique Gold clay four times, leaving space around impressions. Press Large Gingko vein texture into Patina clay three times. Press Small Oak vein texture into Cappuccino clay four times. Use coordinating Shape Maker leaf cutters to cut around impressions.
  • 4. Using 12mm Ball End Shaper of Style & Detail Tools, press firmly along edges of each oak leaf, rolling tool as you move along clay to curl leaves, creating added dimension and detail. Do not curl gingko leaves.
  • 5. Overlap and arrange leaves as shown, creating two small and one large cluster. Using 6mm Ball End Shaper of Style & Detail Tools, make two random impressions in each large oak leaf. Roll two tiny Antique Gold balls same size as concave end of medium Etch ‘n Pearl. Set balls into impressions using Etch ‘n Pearl.
  • 6. Bake clay pieces on an oven-proof glass or metal surface at 130°C (275°F for US Consumers) for up to 30 minutes. Do not microwave. Do not over-bake. Remove from oven and allow to cool.
  • 7. Once cool, use paintbrush to apply Antiquing Medium to leaves; wipe away excess with paper towels. Glue leaves to planter as desired.
  • 8. Clean hands, tools and work area with soap and water.
