STEP 1

  • Designer Kathleen Paneitz created these lovely herb containers using two old glass bottles she found at the flea market. She cut fresh herbs from her garden and used rub-ons to label the bottles. Use the bottles as decoration, to store herbs or to make flavored oils. Here’s a quick flavored oil recipe that’s perfect for gift-giving, dipping bread as a delicious appetizer or drizzling over pasta and salads.

Recipe Instructions

  • 1. In a saucepan, combine the garlic and about 1/2 cup oil. Place over medium heat until lightly browned. Remove from heat and allow oil to cool for a few minutes.
  • 2. Using a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth, strain garlic and oil.
  • 3. Combine oil with remaining oil. Place basil and peppercorns in a sterilized jar or bottle with a tight fitting lid. Add oil and seal jar. Store in a cool, dark place for a week or two before using.
