Directions

Creepy Countdown

  • 1. Use foam cutter or serrated knife to cut small flat spot from 6” foam ball. (Note: Cutting flat spots on balls before adhering them together gives larger point of contact for more secure bond.) Use glue gun to adhere flat side of ball to center of foam disc, inserting toothpick into center of disc before pressing shapes together.
  • 2. Cut small flat spot from top of 6” ball; insert toothpick in center. Cut small flat spot from bottom of 5” ball; adhere to top of 6” ball using glue gun, inserting toothpick as before. Cut small flat spot from top of 5” ball. See Photo 1.
  • 3. Repeat Step 2 to attach one 4” ball and six 3” balls to continue building tower. See Photo 2.
  • 4. Begin to turn tower to create spiral using six 2-1/2” balls. As tower turns, position flat spots so next ball in sequence leans slightly toward right of previous ball. Continue building tower using six 2” balls. Cut flat spots to create slight outward and downward shape of tower as shown. Begin to spiral tower back up using six 1-1/2” balls as shown. Finish spiral with four 1” balls.
  • 5. Paint tower and disc black; let dry. See Photo 3. Using white colored pencil, draw numbers onto balls. Outline numbers and fill in using fabric paint; let dry. See Photo 4.
  • 6. Adhere ribbon around edges of disc. Adhere several Halloween stickers to base of tower. Each day of countdown, decorate appropriate numbered date with Halloween stickers.

Jack-o’-Lantern

  • 1. Use foam cutter or serrated knife to cut small flat spot from 4” foam ball to create pumpkin base.
  • 2. Place glue stick (from glue gun) on work surface. With flat side of ball pointing down, center ball on glue stick. Starting from bottom, roll ball along glue stick, pressing down with even pressure and keeping ball centered. Continue to create eight evenly-spaced grooves around pumpkin. See Photo 5.
  • 3. Use marker to draw smiling face. See Photo 6.
  • 4. Use foam cutter’s small precision blade to follow marker lines, cutting approximately 3/8” deep into foam. Carefully scrape out face section using end of wooden dowel. See Photo 7.
  • 5. Stir Smooth Finish. Following manufacturer’s instructions, apply generous amount finish to flat paintbrush. Apply finish to ball, smoothing as needed to fill cells of foam. Apply finish to completely cover foam surface; let dry. See Photo 8. Sand surface to smooth rough areas; wipe dust with damp paper towel.
  • 6. Paint top and sides of 5” foam cube orange; while wet, sprinkle with orange glitter. Let dry.
  • 7. Paint pumpkin orange; let dry. Paint face sections black; let dry.
  • 8. Use foam cutter to cut 2-1/2” foam ball in half for feet; paint feet black and let dry.
  • 9. Cut two 11” dowel lengths for legs using wire cutters; paint legs black and let dry.
  • 10. Using glue gun, adhere feet to opposite corners on top of cube. Adhere legs into top of feet at slight angle; legs should touch at top. Adhere tops of legs into center bottom of pumpkin.
  • 11. Cut several ribbon lengths and pin together under pumpkin, wrapping ribbons around dowels. Tie black ribbon into bow around “neck”, leaving tails long. Pin top hat to pumpkin.
  • 12. Adhere ribbon around sides of cube using white glue; let dry.

Mummy Witch

  • 1. Paint top and sides of 3” foam cube purple; while wet, sprinkle with purple glitter. Let dry.
  • 2. Cut two 9” dowel lengths for legs using wire cutters; paint legs white and let dry.
  • 3. Cut 1” strips of cheesecloth. Completely cover 3” foam ball with cheesecloth strips, adhering with white glue as needed to secure.
  • 4. Cut twelve 1/2” wire lengths and bend each into “U” shape. Insert wires into face to create crisscrossed smile as shown. Adhere two wiggle eyes above mouth.
  • 5. Use foam cutter to cut 1-1/2” foam ball in half for feet. Using glue gun, adhere feet to opposite corners on top of cube. Adhere legs into top of feet at slight angle; legs should touch at top.
  • 6. Cut small opening in cheesecloth at bottom of head. Adhere tops of legs into foam ball through opening.
  • 7. Cut lengths of cheesecloth and pin to bottom of head around dowels to create body. Twist center of white chenille stem around neck and bend ends out for arms. Wrap lengths of cheesecloth around arms; secure with glue. Adhere cheesecloth strips to tops of feet.
  • 8. Cut 7” square of black felt for cape. Round two bottom corners with scissors, fold collar into top, and adhere around body. Pin witch’s hat to head.
  • 9. Adhere ribbon around sides of cube using white glue; let dry.

Masked Ghost

  • 1. Paint top and sides of 3” foam cube purple; while wet, sprinkle with purple glitter. Let dry.
  • 2. Cut two 5-1/2” dowel lengths for legs using wire cutters; paint legs white and let dry.
  • 3. Press and roll top of foam cone on work surface to create smooth, rounded top. Gently roll bottom edge of cone on work surface to smooth edge slightly.
  • 4. Stir Smooth Finish. Following manufacturer’s instructions, apply generous amount finish to flat paintbrush. Apply finish to cone, smoothing as needed to fill cells of foam. Apply finish to completely cover foam surface; let dry. Sand surface to smooth rough areas; wipe dust with damp paper towel.
  • 5. Use foam cutter to cut 1-1/2” foam ball in half for feet. Repeat Step 4 to apply finish to feet; let dry. Sand as needed.
  • 6. Paint ghost and feet white; let dry.
  • 7. Using glue gun, adhere feet to opposite corners on top of cube. Adhere legs into top of feet at slight angle; legs should touch at top. Adhere tops of legs into center bottom of body.
  • 8. Cut two 1”x2-3/4” strips from white felt. Round one short end of each piece for hands. Pinch and glue opposite ends of strips together for arms. Pins arms to “shoulders.”
  • 9. Cut small mask from black felt. Brush mask with white glue and sprinkle with purple glitter; let dry. Adhere mask to ghost. Use marker to draw mouth and eyes.
  • 10. Adhere ribbon around sides of cube using white glue; let dry.
  • 11. Bend wire length into word “Boo”; brush with glue and sprinkle with purple glitter. Let dry. Adhere ends of wire to hands of ghost. Hang small favor bag from one arm.
