Wacky Animal Friends Bookmarks

Materials

  • Craft foam, 2-1/2”x7-1/2”: red, bright green, bright orange; assorted alphabet letters
  • Wooden shapes: circles, two large, six medium, seven small; teardrops, four small
  • Yarn, 50” length: white eyelash (bear), brown (monkey), yellow (giraffe)
  • Wiggle eyes, two (for each)

Tools

  • DecoArt Americana Acrylic Paints: Lamp Black, Snow White, Mink Tan, Baby Pink, Cadmium Yellow, Milk Chocolate
  • Beacon Adhesives Kid’s Choice! Glue

Basic Supplies

scissors, ruler, paintbrush, black marker, newspaper (to cover work surface)

Directions

STEP 1

  • Cover work surface with newspaper.

STEP 2

  • For each animal, measure and cut 2-1/2”x7-1/2” craft foam rectangle. Outline edges with black marker.

Bear

  • 1. Paint four medium circles (eyes and ears) and one small circle (nose) Lamp Black. Let dry. Paint inside of ears Snow White.
  • 2. Adhere wiggle eyes onto eyes.
  • 3. Wrap white yarn around bookmark, leaving 2” area on bottom. Adhere yarn ends on back. Adhere ears, eyes, and nose onto yarn.
  • 4. Adhere foam letters to spell “BEARY” above yarn. Use black marker to write “I’m a” on top and “good student” on bottom.

Monkey

  • 1. Paint two medium circles (ears) and large circle (muzzle) Mink Tan. Let dry. Paint inside of ears Baby Pink.
  • 2. Use black marker to outline ears and muzzle. Draw nostrils and mouth line.
  • 3. Wrap brown yarn around bookmark, leaving 2” area on bottom. Adhere yarn ends on back. Adhere ears, wiggle eyes, and nose onto yarn.
  • 4. Adhere foam letters to spell “WILD” above yarn. Use black marker to write “about learning” on bottom.

Giraffe

  • 1. Paint four small circles (spots) Milk Chocolate. Paint two small circles (tops of antlers) and four teardrops (antlers and ears) Cadmium Yellow. Let dry. Paint inside of ears Milk Chocolate.
  • 2. Use black marker to outline ears, antlers, and muzzle. Draw nostrils and mouth.
  • 3. Wrap orange yarn around bookmark, leaving 2” area on bottom. Adhere yarn ends on back. Adhere ears, wiggle eyes, antlers, spots, and nose onto yarn.
  • 4. Adhere foam letters to spell “STRETCH” above yarn. Use black marker to write “your reading skills” on bottom.

Tip

  • 1. Substitute heavy cardstock for craft foam.
