  • Tulip Diamond Glitter Spray Paint
  • Silver spray paint
  • Aleene's Adhesives: Fabric Fusion Peel & Stick Tape, Fast Grab Tacky Glue, Fast Grab Tacky Spray

Basic Supplies

scissors, measuring tape, pencil, pot or bucket, water, plastic sheeting (to cover work surface), rubber gloves

Directions

STEP 1

  • On covered work surface, use pumpkin carving tool to cut off pumpkin stem around stem lines. Spray pumpkin stem with silver spray paint. Let dry and set aside.

STEP 2

  • Cut 1” hole in bottom center of pumpkin.

STEP 3

  • Measure pumpkin from top center hole to center of bottom hole and add 4” to measurement. Measure around widest part of pumpkin and add 2”. Cut velvet to these measurements.

STEP 4

  • Wearing gloves, prepare Tulip Permanent Fabric Dye following manufacturer’s instructions. Dampen velvet fabric and wring out excess water. Dip fabric into dye bath and pull top of fabric out and drape over container. Leave fabric in dye bath for a few minutes; pull fabric out another few inches and repeat until desired ombre effect is achieved. Follow manufacturer’s instructions for rinsing, washing, and drying fabric.

STEP 5

  • Match up short ends of dyed velvet piece. Use Peel & Stick Tape to adhere into tube shape. Slide tube over pumpkin and stuff about 2” of fabric into bottom hole. Pull fabric back off of pumpkin and lightly spray pumpkin with Tacky Spray. Pull fabric back over pumpkin, smoothing and arranging wrinkles and folds toward top hole. Tuck remaining fabric into top hole.

STEP 6

  • Spray pumpkin with Diamond Glitter paint. Let dry. Adhere painted stem onto top of pumpkin using Tacky Glue. Let dry.

Tip

  • 1. Natural fabrics like silk, cotton, and linen are the best choices for dyeing.
