  • Chain-nose pliers, two pairs
  • Wire cutters, crimping pliers
  • Aleene’s Clear Gel Tacky Glue

Basic Supplies

scissors, ruler, toothpick

Directions

STEP 1

  • Remove end of wire from spool; apply tacky glue to wire end. Let dry. (Note: This will make it easier to string beads. If end becomes frayed, trim and reapply glue.)

STEP 2

  • For necklace, prepare two wire spools. Leave wire on spool and thread beads randomly onto wire. Repeat process for second spool.

STEP 3

  • Follow manufacturer’s instructions for using knitter. Use 4-peg head on knitter. Cast on without beads, then knit with bead in each space for remainder of spool. When at end of first spool, twist ends of wire together close to last loop. Trim to 1/2”. Add glue to twist; let dry. Tuck twisted ends into center of knitted tube. Work total of 52 rows (208 beads). Cast off. Trim ends of wire to 2”; thread ends of wire into center of knitted tube.

STEP 4

  • On beading wire, string crimp tube and end of chain. Pass beading wire back through crimp bead and crimp. String on bell cap. Pass beading wire through knitted tube. String on bell cap, crimp bead, and end of second piece of chain. Pass wire back through crimp bead and bell cap. Pull up any slack in wire; squeeze crimp bead to crimp. Open end links of chain by gently twisting; attach one half of clasp to each side. Close chain links.

STEP 5

  • For earrings, unreel half of one spool of wire (approx. 59”). Wrap it around empty reel. Dip ends of both pieces into glue and let dry. String 20 beads on each wire. Knit following instructions for necklace, placing two beads per round in opposite spaces.

STEP 6

  • Close jump rings securely. Thread end of wire through jump ring and wrap it around itself three times. Trim end close and add glue with toothpick. Press end into wrap. Repeat for other side of earring. Open ear wire loop; attach to jump ring. Close loop. Repeat for other earring.

Tip

  • 1. Clear gel tacky glue has a good flexibility and won’t show in the finished design. You can also use fabric glue or regular tacky glue.
