Mississippi Mud Cake in a Jar


  • Mississippi Mud Cake Mix In A Jar:
  • 1-1/2 cups flour
  • 3/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • Glass quart jar
  • Mississippi Mud Cake Mix:
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 (4 oz.) semisweet chocolate baking bar, chopped
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 (10.5 oz.) bag miniature marshmallows
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • Chocolate Frosting:
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1 (16 oz.) pkg. powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract


  • Mixing Bowls
  • Hand Mixer
  • Spatula
  • Baking Dish
  • Oven


To Make Mix In A Jar

  • 1. Layer jar in order given: flour, salt, cocoa, and sugar. Secure lid tightly and decorate jar as desired.

Mississippi Mud Cake

  • 1. Preheat oven to 350°.
  • 2. Microwave butter and semisweet chocolate in large microwave-safe glass bowl on HIGH for 1 minute or until melted and smooth, stirring every 30 seconds. Whisk jar cake mix, vanilla, and eggs into chocolate mixture. Pour into greased 15"x10"x1" jelly-roll pan. Bake for 20 minutes; remove from oven and sprinkle evenly with miniature marshmallows and bake an additional 8 to 10 minutes or until golden brown. Drizzle warm cake with Chocolate Frosting and sprinkle evenly with pecans.

Chocolate Frosting

  • 1. Stir together first 3 ingredients in medium saucepan over medium heat until butter is melted. Cook stirring constantly for 2 minutes or until slightly thickened. Remove from heat. With electric mixer, beat in powdered sugar and vanilla on medium-high speed until smooth.
