  • Paper trimmer
  • Beacon Adhesives Zip Dry Paper Glue

Basic Supplies

wooden skewer, scissors, paperclips, hole punch

Directions

STEP 1

  • Tear pages from recycled magazine. Use magazines with brightly-colored ads, text heavy pages, etc. Use paper trimmer to cut pages in half. Carefully fold 1/4” from each edge of half-torn sheet, folding in one direction. Continue until half page is one long thick strip with 1/4” folds. This will create thick strip and add durability to coils on bowl.

STEP 2

  • To create tight coil, start from one edge of magazine page; roll edge around wooden skewer. Continue until tight coil has been formed. Place paper adhesive on one edge of coil and use paperclip to hold in place while glue is drying.

STEP 3

  • Determine size of desired bowl and continue to make coils until bottom of bowl has been formed. Arrange coils in outer circle. Adhere coils together by placing glue on edges. Repeat steps, creating inner circle. Continue making inner rings of coils until bottom of bowl is solid circle of coils.

STEP 4

  • Arrange coils facing vertically around bottom of bowl. Continue in layered stacks of coils until desired size of bowl has been formed using paper glue to adhere layers together.

STEP 5

  • Use die-cutting machine, white cardstock, and tag die to cut one white tag. Punch hole at top of tag. Use different letters from recycled magazine for sentiment on tag. Adhere letters for “save the earth” or similar sentiment of choice.

STEP 6

  • Use hole punch to punch hole on top edge of bowl. Tie tag to bowl using twine; tie bow on front.
