Claude Monet Water Lilies

Materials

  • White construction paper, 12” square
  • Watercolor paints
  • Oil pastels
  • Salt
  • Water

Tools

  • Paintbrush
  • Newspaper (to cover work surface)

Directions

STEP 1

  • Find images of water lilies from online resources or encyclopedias. Print images for reference.

STEP 2

  • Use oil pastels to draw water lilies on white paper. Lightly shade to add dimension.

STEP 3

  • On covered work surface, paint water lilies with watercolors. While still wet, sprinkle painting with salt. (Salt acts to pull the colors.) Let dry. Lightly brush salt from painting.

STEP 4

  • If desired, use heavyduty construction paper to create frame for painting. Glue painting inside frame.
