Clay Bears

Materials

  • Polyform Sculpey III Polymer Clay: Black, White, Hazelnut
  • Clay-dedicated rolling pin or wooden dowel
  • Old or promo credit card (for cutter)
  • Parchment-lined baking sheet

Tools

  • Oven
  • Ruler
  • Toothpick

Directions

Note

  • 1. Adults, help kids when baking clay in oven. On clean work surface, remove clay from packages. To condition, roll clay separately in hands until soft, bending and rolling until pliable. If clay cracks, keep conditioning.

Polar Bear

  • 1. From White, roll following balls: 1" (body), four 1/2” (legs), 3/4” (head), four 1/4” (muzzle, ears, and tail). From Black, roll tiny ball (nose).
  • 2. Using photo as guide, form legs into teardrops and press on body. Press head on body and ears on head. Press muzzle and nose on face.

Black Bear

  • 1. From Black, roll following balls: 1” (body), 3/4” (head), five 1/2” (nose and paws), 1/4” (tail), two tiny (ears). From Hazelnut, roll 1/4” ball (muzzle).
  • 2. Form body into oval and legs into teardrops. Press legs and head on body. Press ears, muzzle, and nose on head.

Brown Bear

  • 1. From Hazelnut, roll following balls: 1” (body), 3/4” (head), four 1/2” (arms and legs), four 1/4” (ears, muzzle, and tail). From Black, roll small ball (nose).
  • 2. Press head on body. Press legs and arms on sides, forming into ovals. Press ears, muzzle, and nose on face.

Panda Bear

  • 1. From Black, roll following balls: four 1/2” (legs and arms), three 1/4” (ears and tail), three tiny (eyes and nose). From White, roll: 1” (body), 3/4” (head), and 1/4” (muzzle).
  • 2. Press head on top of body and legs and arms on sides of body. Press ears, muzzle, and eyes on face.

Finishing Up

  • 1. Use toothpick to poke eye holes. Press small amount Black clay in eye holes. Use toothpick to make indentations in ears, muzzle, and paws.
  • 2. Follow manufacturer’s instructions to bake bears on parchment-lined baking sheet in oven. Let cool completely.
