  • Cardstock or pattern-print paper, squares: 2", 1", 1/2"
  • Silver eyelets, 50
  • Black cording, 5 yds.
  • Wooden dowel, 18" length

Tools

  • DecoArt Americana Acrylic Paint: Lamp Black
  • Hole punch
  • Eyelet setter
  • Aleene's Acid-Free Memory Glue

Basic Supplies

scissors, ruler, paintbrush, newspaper (to cover work surface)

Directions

STEP 1

  • Adults, help kids when using tools.

STEP 2

  • On covered work surface, paint wooden dowel Lamp Black. Let dry.

STEP 3

  • Measure and cut 5" squares from cardstock. Have each family member decorate his/her square using 2", 1", and 1/2" cardstock squares. Cut squares in half creating triangle patterns. Create bird, sailboat, flowers, or other designs. Use photo as guide. Glue designs on cardstock squares.

STEP 4

  • Position squares in desired pattern on work surface. Use hole punch to punch holes on corner of each square and on center edges of each square. See photo. (Note: Do not punch holes on bottom or outer center edges of squares on bottom of quilt.)

STEP 5

  • Use eyelet setter to set silver eyelets in each hole.

STEP 6

  • Measure and cut 5" lengths of black cording. Thread cording lengths through holes, joining cardstock squares together, so quilt is joined vertically. Thread cording lengths through holes on top squares and around wooden dowel; knot ends together.

STEP 7

  • For hanger, measure and cut two 6" black cording lengths. Tie cording lengths around each end of dowel; knot ends together.

Tip

  • 1. Use needle and thread to paper-stitch family name and "Est. in Year" on center square in quilt!
