Preparation

Leaves Painting Instructions

  • 1. Trace pattern; transfer onto center of stone omitting butterfly details.
  • 2. Float Deep Tea around outer edges of butterfly shape, along leaf edges, and center veins. Use mop brush to soften edges along water side of float. Use Black Forest Green to deepen darker crevices and corners.
  • 3. Use deerfoot to dry brush Spice Pink highlight on each leaf; add a touch of White
  • 4. Use liner and thinned Deep Tea to pull veins from center. Add smaller Spice Pink lines over veins and even smaller White lines.

Butterfly Painting Instructions

  • 1. Basecoat with mix of Black + Deep Midnight Blue (3:1). Use 3/8” deerfoot to dry brush Lt. French Blue away from wing edges.
  • 2. Use white graphite to trace details. With paint side of brush facing outer edges of wings, float short Yellow Ochre and Winter Blue markings as shown.
  • 3. Use white graphite to trace details. With paint side of brush facing outer edges of wings, float short Yellow Ochre and Winter Blue markings as shown.
  • 4. Use liner thinned with White to add tiny comma strokes along wing edges; highlight top of wings. Add Black lines between markings, pulling from outer edge to center letting line fade to a sharp point. Use Black to float base of each wing where it connects to body.
  • 5. Float Lt. French Blue along outer edges of body. Use chisel blender to dry brush Winter Blue highlight on bottom section of body.
  • 6. Use smaller liner and White to add head markings. Line antennae Black; add White highlight. For antennae shadow, use thinned Deep Teal.
