Garden Lap Blanket

Materials

  • Simply Soft yarn (100% acrylic) (Caron): White (A), 12 oz.; Sunshine (B), 6 oz.; Persimmon (C), 6 oz.; Lavender Blue (D), 6 oz.; Sage (E), 6 oz.

Tools

  • Crochet hook, Size H-8 (5mm) or size needed to obtain gauge
  • Yarn needle

Gauge

  • 1. Motif (Rounds 1-7) = 5-1/2"x5-1/2" (14cm x 14cm)

Special terms

  • 1. beg-trPC: Beginning treble crochet Popcorn-Ch 4, 3 tr in indicated stitch, remove loop from hook, insert hook in 4th ch of beginning ch-4, draw dropped loop through ch.
  • 2. trPC: Treble crochet Popcorn-4 tr in indicated stitch, remove loop from hook, insert hook in top of first tr, draw dropped loop through tr.
  • 3. beg-dcPC: Beginning double crochet Popcorn-Ch 3, 3 dc in indicated stitch, remove loop from hook, insert hook in 3rd ch of beginning ch-3, draw dropped loop through ch.
  • 4. dcPC: Double crochet Popcorn-4 dc in indicated stitch, remove loop from hook, insert hook in top of first dc, draw dropped loop through dc.

Notes

  • 1. Blanket is made with 30 motifs, joined in 6 rows with 5 motifs in each row, alternating between motif 1 and motif 2 throughout. 2 Work all motifs through Round 5. Work motif border on first motif, then work motif border on additional motifs with one-sided or two-sided joining as needed for assembly.

Lap Blanket

  • 1. Motif 1 (make 15).
  • 2. With B, ch 2.
  • 3. Rnd 1 (RS): Work 8 sc in 2nd ch from hook; join with sl st in first sc-8 sc. Fasten off.
  • 4. Rnd 2: With RS facing, join C with sl st in any sc, beg-trPC in same sc, ch 3, *trPC in next sc, ch 3; repeat from * around; join with sl st in top of beg-trPC-8 trPC, and 8 ch-3 sp. Fasten off.
  • 5. Rnd 3: With RS facing, join E with sl st in any ch-3 sp, work beg-dcPC, ch 5, sc in next ch-3 sp, ch 5, *dcPC in next ch-3 sp, ch 5, sc in next ch-3 sp, ch 5; repeat from * around; join with sl st in top of beg-dcPC-4 dcPC, 4 sc, and 8 ch-5 sp. Fasten off.
  • 6. Rnd 4: With RS facing, join A with sc in any ch-5 sp immediately before a popcorn, (4 sc, hdc, dc) in same ch-5 sp, ch 1, (dc, hdc, 5 sc) in next ch-5 sp, *(5 sc, hdc, dc) in next ch-5 sp, ch 1, (dc, hdc, 5 sc) in next ch-5 sp; repeat from * around; join with sl st in first sc-8 dc, 8 hdc, 40 sc, and 4 corner ch-1 sp. Fasten off.
  • 7. Rnd 5: With RS facing, join D with sl st in any corner ch-1 sp, ch 4 (counts as dc, ch 1), (dc, ch 2, dc, ch 1, dc) in same ch-1 sp, [sk next 2 sts, (dc, ch 1, dc) in next sc] 4 times, sk next 2 sts, *(dc, ch 1, dc, ch 2, dc, ch 1, dc) in next corner ch-1 sp, [sk next 2 sts, (dc, ch 1, dc) in next sc] 4 times, sk next 2 sts; repeat from * around; join with sl st in 3rd ch of beginning ch-4-48 dc, 4 corner ch-2 sp, and 24 ch-1 sp. Fasten off.
  • 8. Motif 2 (make 15) Work same as Motif 1, except work Round 2 with D and Round 5 with C.
  • 9. Motif Border (work around all 30 motifs) Motif Border (first motif) Rnd 6: With RS facing, join A with sc in any corner ch-2 sp, *ch 3, sc in next ch-sp; repeat from * around; join with ch 1, hdc in first sc (ch 1, hdc join counts as ch-3 sp)-28 sc and 28 ch-3 sp.
  • 10. Rnd 7: Ch 1, sc in first ch-3 sp (formed by join), ch 5, sc in next ch-3 sp, *[ch 3, sc in next ch-3 sp] 6 times, ch 5, sc in next ch-3 sp; repeat from * 2 more times, [ch 3, sc in next ch-3 sp] 5 times, ch 3; join with sl st in first sc-4 corner ch-5 sp and 24 ch-3 sp. Fasten off. Motif Border with one-sided joining (Note: Join motifs into 6 rows with 5 motifs per row, alternating motif 1 and motif 2 throughout.)
  • 11. Rnd 6: Work same as Round 6 on motif border of first motif.
  • 12. Rnd 7: Ch 1, sc in first ch-3 sp (formed by join), ch 5, sc in next ch-3 sp, [ch 3, sc in next ch-3 sp] 6 times, with RS facing you align edges of motifs to be joined, ch 2, sl st in 3rd ch of corner ch-5 sp of neighboring motif, ch 2 (corners joined), sc in next ch-3 sp, [ch 1, sl st in corresponding ch-3 sp of neighboring motif, ch 1] 6 times (sides joined), ch 2, sl st in 3rd ch of corner ch-5 sp of neighboring motif, ch 2 (corners joined), sc in next ch-3 sp, [ch 3, sc in next ch-3 sp] 6 times, ch 5, sc in next ch-3 sp, [ch 3, sc in next ch-3 sp] 5 times, ch 3; join with sl st in first sc. Finishing

Edging Rnd 1: With RS facing, join B with sl st in first ch-3 sp immediately after any corner ch-5 sp, ch 4 (counts as dc, ch 1), dc in same ch-sp as join, (dc, ch 1, dc) in each ch-3 sp and in each joined ch-5 sp around, working (dc, [ch 1, dc] 4 times) in each corner ch-5 sp; join with sl st in 3rd ch of beginning ch-4-356 dc. Fasten off.
  • 2. Rnd 2: With RS facing, join A with sc in first ch-1 sp of any corner, *ch 3, sc in next ch-1 sp; repeat from * around; join with ch 1, hdc in first sc (ch 1, hdc join counts as ch-3 sp)-184 ch-3 sps.
  • 3. Rnd 3: Ch 1, sc in first ch-3 sp (formed by join), *ch 3, sc in next ch-3 sp; repeat from * around, ch 3; join with sl st in first sc. Fasten off.
  • 4. Using yarn needle, weave in all ends.
