Appliquéd Baby Set

Materials

  • Small animal print fabric (main)
  • Coordinating small print fabric (background)
  • Gerber items: 12-pack Pre-Fold Birdseye 3-ply Cloth Diapers; 5-pack Onesies, newborn size

Tools

  • Heat ’n Bond Lite Iron-on Adhesive (Therm O Web)
  • Straight pins
  • Sewing machine and white thread
  • Iron and pressing board

Directions

Burp Cloth

  • 1. Cut desired number of appliqués from main animal print fabric. Cut background fabric slightly larger to “frame” main design. Follow manufacturer’s instructions to apply iron-on adhesive to back of background fabric. Trace, cut out and adhere to wrong side of background fabric following directions on package. Cut a small piece iron-on adhesive to adhere main fabric to background, and apply to wrong side of main fabric. Let cool, remove paper backing, position main fabric on top of background fabric and iron to adhere. Let cool.
  • 2. Press pre-fold diaper. Remove paper backing from appliqué, center design in the center padded part of pre-fold diaper; press for 8-10 seconds to apply. Let cool.
  • 3. Starting at bottom corner of appliqué, machine sew zigzag stitch around all four sides, catching raw edge of fabric in the stitching. Pivot with your needle down, at each corner. Repeat around edges of background fabric. Pull threads to the back, tie and clip.

Onesie

  • 1. For appliqué, cut favorite design elements from main fabric. Cut background fabric slightly larger. Follow manufacturer’s instructions to apply iron-on adhesive to back of background fabric. Cut small piece of iron-on adhesive to adhere main fabric appliqué to background fabric. Let cool, remove paper backing, position main fabric on top of background fabric and iron to adhere. Let cool.
  • 2. Press onesie. Remove paper backing from appliqué and center on onesie. Press for 8-10 seconds to apply. Let cool.
  • 3. Starting at bottom of main fabric, machine sew zigzag stitches around all four sides, going over edge of main fabric, all the way around. Repeat around edges of background fabric. Pull threads to the back, tie and clip.
