You Made My Day Card

Materials

  • Cardstock: black; white; pale yellow; spring green
  • Spring green ribbon
  • Pale yellow adhesive gems

Tools

  • Stamps: Anytime Messages set, Flower Blossom Borders set (Hero Arts); Tall Poppies (A Stamp in the Hand Co.); Amy Butler Lotus Floral Clear Stamps (K&Company)
  • Adirondack ink pads (Ranger): Earthtones Pigment in Red Pepper; Brights Dye in Citrus, Sunshine Yellow
  • Watercolor markers: red; orange; yellow; light green
  • Stickles glitter glue (Ranger): Red; Yellow
  • Shape Xpress Cutter and Oval Shape Templates (Fiskars)
  • Marvy punches (Uchida): 1-1/4” circle; 1-3/4” scalloped circle
  • Foam adhesive dots

Directions

STEP 1

  • Make black top fold card base. Cut a 3”x4” oval and 3-3/4”x5” rectangle from white cardstock. Cut following green rectangles: 3-1/8”x4-1/8”; 3-3/4”x4-1/2”; 4”x5-1/4”. Cut 3-1/2”x4-1/2” yellow rectangle. Cut 3-3/8”x4-3/8” black rectangle.

STEP 2

  • Punch 1-1/4” circle from white cardstock and 1-3/4” scalloped circle from green cardstock. Stamp red pigment sentiment on circle; sponge with yellow dye ink. Adhere circles together; set aside.

STEP 3

  • Coloring directly on rubber stamp, use light green watercolor marker to color poppy stems. Color flowers yellow. Add touches of orange and red to flower edges. Huff breath across stamp to moisten ink and stamp flowers on white oval. Sponge yellow dye ink around oval edges. Accent flower edges with glitter glue; set aside to dry.

STEP 4

  • Stamp green leaves multiple times on large white cardstock rectangle. Sponge yellow dye ink over leaves. Mat panel on larger green piece; adhere to bottom of card front, leaving narrow border.

STEP 5

  • Mat oval on remaining cardstock layers as shown. Cut 8” ribbon length and knot center; adhere sentiment circle to knot. Center knot over stamped image and adhere ribbon ends at back of layered piece.

STEP 6

  • Attach layered piece to card with foam dots. Apply gems to upper corners of card.

Tip

  • 1. Change cardstock and ink colors with the seasons: red/yellow for summer; orange/brown for autumn; blue/purple for winter.
  • 2. Placing the oval cut-out behind the circular sentiment draws the eye up to the stamped image so it isn’t lost behind the sentiment.
  • 3. Not a stamper yet? We hope to convince you to give it a try, but you can also create this design using patterned background paper and an oval die-cut shape.
