  • 4. Step 2: Yarn over, insert hook into the “chain” of the previous stitch and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through one loop on hook (the “chain”), yarn over and draw through 3 loops on hook (the “half double crochet”). Repeat step 2 for the length of foundation. (Note: To work a foundation stitch following a regular crochet stitch, begin by inserting hook in base of last regular stitch made.)
  • 5. Fsc: Foundation single crochet (This technique creates a foundation chain and a row of single crochet stitches in one)
  • 6. Step 1: Place a slip knot on hook, ch 2, insert hook in 2nd ch from hook and draw up a loop; yarn over and draw through one loop on hook (the “chain”); yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook (the “single crochet”).

  • 8. hdc2tog: Half double crochet 2 together—[Yarn over, insert hook in next st and pull up a loop] twice, yarn over and draw through all 5 loops on hook.
  • 9. (Note: Hat is worked in joined rounds, from the bottom up. Join last stitch of each round with a slip stitch to first stitch. Scarf is worked in joined rounds. Join last stitch of each round with a slip stitch to first stitch.)
