Size

  • 1. sizes: 6 months (12 months, 18 months, 2 years); hat baby (toddler)

Gauge

  • 1. In pattern, 18 sts and 20 rows = 4”.

Special Stitches

  • 1. FPdc: Front-post double crochet — Yarn over, insert hook from front to back and then to front again around post of stitch, yarn over and draw up loop, [yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook] twice.
  • 2. BPdc: Back-post double crochet — Yarn over, insert hook from back to front and then to back again around post of stitch, yarn over and draw up loop, [yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook] twice.
  • 3. sc2tog: Single crochet 2 together — Insert hook in next stitch, yarn over and draw up a loop, (2 loops on hook), insert hook in next stitch, yarn over and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook.

Note

  • 1. (Note: Cardigan is worked in one piece from neck down, leaving spaces for armholes. Sleeves are worked directly into armholes after body of cardigan is complete. Sleeves, button and hat are worked in continuous spirals. Do not join and do not turn at ends of rounds.)

Cardigan

  • 1. Print out pattern guide. Refer to pattern guide to adjust measurements.

Yoke

  • 1. Ch 41 (41, 43, 43).
  • 2. Row 1 (RS): Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each remaining ch across, turn — 40 (40, 42, 42) sc.
  • 3. Place stitch marker in 3rd stitch, 11th stitch, 30th (30th, 32nd, 32nd), and 38th (38th, 40th, 40th) stitch. (Note: The stitch markers indicate where increases are to be worked.)
  • 4. Row 2 (increase row): Ch 1, [sc in each sc across to next marker, 3 sc in marked st, move marker to 2nd sc of 3-sc just made] 4 times, sc in each remaining sc across, turn — 48 (48, 50, 50) sc.
  • 5. Row 3 (neck increase row): Ch 1, 2 sc in first sc, [sc in each sc across to next marker, 3 sc in marked st, move marker to 2nd sc of 3-sc just made] 4 times, sc in each sc across to last sc, 2 sc in last sc, turn — 58 (58, 60, 60) sc.

Finishing Cardi

  • 1. Block piece lightly, if desired.

Button

  • 1. Leaving a long beginning tail (for stuffing button), ch 2.
  • 2. Round 1: Work 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, do not join, work in continuous spiral - 6 sc.
  • 3. Round 2: Sc in each sc around.
  • 4. Round 3: [Sc2tog] 3 times — 3 sc.
  • 5. Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Stuff button with beginning tail. Thread ending tail through stitches of last round and pull to gather and close opening. Use remainder of ending tail to sew button to cardigan at beginning of front neck. Using yarn needle, weave in ends.

Hat

  • 1. Ch 2.
  • 2. Round 1 (RS): Work 6 sc in 2nd ch from the hook, do not join, work in continuous spiral — 6 sc.
  • 3. Round 2: Work 2 sc in each sc around — 12 sc.
  • 4. (Note: In next round, markers are placed to indicate increase locations. In following rounds an increase (2 sc) is worked in each marked stitch and marker moved to 2nd sc in increase. This increases 6 stitches in every round. If you are able to see increases from previous rounds, you may prefer to omit markers.)
  • 5. Round 3: [Sc in first sc, 2 sc in next sc, place marker in 2nd sc of 2-sc group just made] 6 times — 18 sc.
