Directions

Artist's Tips

  • 1. Use dry or damp brushes; fabric paint should not be thinned with water. Use Transparent Medium to float or to thin paint for washes and line-work. Remove mistakes on areas not intended to be painted immediately with a wet brush and soap.

Preparation

  • 1. Wash and dry garments; do not use fabric softeners or sizing.
  • 2. Print out pattern. Make two photo copies of patterns; cover patterns with sealing tape to prevent stylus from poking through paper. Cut one pattern directly around outer edges; set remaining patterns aside. Insert cardboard scrap inside garments to prevent paint bleed through. Position trimmed patterns onto garments; use straight pins to secure in place. Use fabric marker to carefully trace around outer edges of patterns; do not transfer details at this time. Remove patterns.
  • 3. Use appropriate sized brushes to apply several Undercoat White coats to design areas (Note: Use blow dryer to force dry.) Transfer basic details.

Frogs

  • 1. Use shaders and Hauser Lt. Green to base green areas of frog; while wet, use angular shader to shade face (omit eyelids) Pine Green and Lt. Soft Sage to highlight.
  • 2. For pollywog, base shirt Fuchsia; shade Dk. Rose. Use White to dry brush center. Use monogram liner and White to paint collar.
  • 3. For tadpole, use #4 pointed round and Bright Yellow to base vest. Dry. Use monogram liner to paint Island Blue pinstripes. Paint bowtie Fuchsia; add White highlights.
  • 4. For both frogs, use #4 pointed round and Island Blue to base pants and leggings; dry brush White highlights. Use #1 pointed round to add Bright Yellow polka-dots. Use #1 pointed round to paint Lamp Black pupils; dry. Use monogram liner and White to add reflected highlights. Use monogram liner and Lamp Black to paint eyelashes, outline eyes, and paint mouth; paint nostrils Pine Green. Use Fuchsia and 1/8" deerfoot stippler to dry brush cheeks on pollywog and use #1 pointed round to base tongue on tadpole; use dirty brush and touch of White to highlight tongue. Use #4 pointed round and Medieval Gold to base crowns; use dirty brush to shade Renaissance Brown.

Lily Pads and Leaf Umbrella

  • 1. Use shaders and Hauser Lt. Green to base umbrella leaves, stem, and lily pads; use angular shader to shade Pine Green. Highlight lily pad edges Pistachio Green. Use dirty brush and Lemon to highlight umbrella leaves; use dirty brush and touch of White to enhance highlights. Use liner brush to paint Pine Green vein lines on leaves and lily pad.
  • 2. For ladybug, use #1 round and Christmas Red to paint body. Paint head Lamp Black; dot body. Use monogram liner to dot tiny White eye.

Fish and Fishing Pole

  • 1. Use monogram liner to base pole Medieval Gold. Use same brush and White to paint water ripples; shade Island Blue. Use shaders and Medieval Gold to base gold areas on fish body and tail. Use Island Blue to paint head, stripe on body, and polkadots; use dirty brush and touch of White to dry brush highlight on head. Use monogram liner to paint eye White. Use same brush to add Lamp Black pupil and mouth.

Finishing

  • 1. Use fabric marker to lightly outline umbrella, crowns, heads, bodies of frogs, fish, fishing pole, and to draw fishing line.
  • 2. Allow paint to air dry 48 hours before laundering. Wash on gentle cycle with mild soap. Lay flat to dry.
