Toilé Candle Box

Materials

  • Recycled cigar box
  • Toile cotton fabric
  • FolkArt Artist’s Pigment: Titanium White
  • Red silk flowers
  • Glass votive candleholders, three
  • Wooden small appliqué

Tools

  • Poly-fil Traditional Batting
  • STYROFOAM* Brand Foam Gentle Standard Foam Block, 3-7/8”x7-7/8”
  • Red tissue paper
  • FolkArt Artist’s Pigment: Titanium White
  • FolkArt One Stroke Paintbrush: Flat, 3/4”
  • Heavy cardboard
  • Wire cutters
  • Fine-grit sandpaper
  • 1. Remove labels from cigar box. Lightly sand and wipe dust.
  • 2. Glue appliqué to box front; let dry.
  • 3. Basecoat box Titanium White; let dry.
  • 4. Sand box edges and appliqué for a distressed look. Set aside.
  • 5. Cut cardboard slightly smaller than inside lid of box. Cut batting in same manner. Glue batting to cardboard.
  • 6. Cut fabric 1" larger than lid measurement. Lay fabric, right side down, on work surface. Lay cardboard/batting square, batting side down, on fabric. Wrap fabric to back of cardboard and glue to secure. Check that front is smooth.
  • 7. Glue fabric square inside lid.
  • 8. Place 1/2" of foam in bottom of box. Place votives in box center. Place foam, as needed in box, to secure votives.
  • 9. Remove votives. Cover foam with tissue paper and replace votives. Insert flowers into foam. (Note: Never leave burning candles unattended.)
