Pattern - Vamped up and Mummy Dearest Porch Sitters

  • 1. Print and cut out patterns. Drill 1/4" hole in opposite sides of 6" pot with center 1-1/8" from top for Mummy's arms. Drill 1/2" holes in opposite sides of 10" pot with center 1-1/4" from top for Vamp's arms.
  • 2. Drill 1/2" hole in each 2" wooden ball. Position balls together as rope arms on Vamp would be holding them and mark where they touch. Drill 1/8", 1/4"-deep hole in each ball at mark. Cut off 1/2" length from 1/8" dowel and glue ends into ball holes to secure. In same way, glue two 1-1/4" ball knobs together for Mummy's hands, using 1/16" drill bit and 1/16" dowel instead. Holes for arms are already drilled in top of knobs.
  • 3. Cut foam to fit snugly up into 1" and 1-3/4" pots. Spread white craft glue on sides of foam and wedge up snugly in pots. Cut one point from Medium Star for bird's beak. Cut two 3-1/4" and two 2-1/2" lengths from chenille stems for bird's legs. Position 2-1/2" length 3/4 up from end of each leg and twist to secure. Trim feet as shown.
  • 4. Use silicon glue to adhere Medium Circle over hole in Mummy's head and Large Circle to cover top of Vamp's hole. Roll modeling compound to 1/4" thickness making it large enough to cover top of Mummy's and Vamp's heads; spread white glue over top of heads and adhere modeling compound pieces. While still wet, use comb to add in Vamp's hair. Let dry. If any cracks form after drying, fill in with more modeling compound and let dry. Cut Vamp's ears from remaining piece and glue to sides of pot, 2" from top.
  • 5. Roll out modeling compound to 1/8" thickness and cut into 1-1/8"-long strips. Cover one side with white glue and wrap strips around 4" and 6" pots as shown for Mummy's wrapping. Cut out bat's wings and ears from remaining strips and glue to 1" pots as shown.
  • 6. Cut 1/2" holes center in tops of square peat pots and 1" holes in tops of round pots. Use piercing tool to pierce holes 1/2" down from tops of square peat pots, 1/2" in from sides and 1/4" down from top holes and a little out on each side Do same on round peat pots, 1/2" down from top and 1-1/2" apart and two more 13/8" down fro top two, same width apart.
  • 7. Glue Vamp's nose in place and basecoat Vamp's face, ears, and hands mix of equal parts Flesh Tone and Titanium White. Transfer Vamp's hair, features, and clothes, and Mummy's face. Paint Mummy's face, nose, and hands Flesh Tone. Basecoat Mummy's wrapping, eyes, and shoes Titanium White; Vamp's hair, cape, pants, legs, arms and shoes, crow and bats Lamp Black; Vamp's pot Shimmering Silver and rim mix of Dioxazine Purple and Titanium White.
  • 8. Use stencil brush to dry brush around Mummy's wrapping with Neutral Gray, and around Vamp's face and ears with Plum. Transfer his features and paint his eyes and fangs Titanium White. Use liner to add eyebrows with Lamp Black. Use end of a large b rush to dot pupils Lamp Black. Dry brush Titanium White a little on right side of pupils and dot in center of this with small paintbrush handle. Dry brush a little more with Plum around mouth and eyes. Dry brush cheeks Blush Flesh; around cape with Grey Sky; on shirt with Neutral Grey; around bats' wings, ear and on bottom with Grey Sky. Use liner to dot in centers of crow's and bats' eyes with Lamp Black and Mummy's highlight and bats' teeth with Titanium White. Use liner to add Mummy's eyebrows with Lamp Black. Dry brush cheeks Blush Flesh.
  • 9. Do all line work as shown with black pen. Glue Mummy's nose in place. Trace lettering on rim of pot and tag. Apply varnish. Tie string around tag and push under beak while gluing to crow. Push crow's legs into foam and feather in top of pot. Wedge a piece of foam into 4" Vamp's pot and curl black and purple wires around a dowel or pen and insert one end into foam and remaining end into bats as shown. Arrange basket filler over top of foam.
  • 10. Thread ropes for arms through corresponding pots. Fold ropes for Mummy's and Vamp's legs in half, wrap aluminum wire lengths around center of ropes and thread wire ends through holes in corresponding pots. Twist wire to secure on top of pot. Wire will be covered with corresponding head. Use silicon glue to adhere corresponding hands onto ends of arms. Thread ends of legs through tops of corresponding hands onto ends of arms. Thread ends of legs through tops of corresponding shoes and wrap heavy-duty double-sided tape around ropes where tops of shoes will rest. Insert lacing brads through shoes and bend prongs to secure. Lace corresponding jewelry hemp on shoes and tie at top. Use silicon glue to glue heads in place. Use wire cutters to remove prongs from skull brad and glue in place in Vamp's collar. Position crow and pot in place in corresponding arms.
