  • Mixed Media Mosaic Pots

  • Clay pots
  • Waterproof sealer
  • Ceramic tile adhesive
  • Pre-mixed grout
  • Plastic buttons and beads: alphabet letters; flowers; shell-shaped; square; ovals; round; flat
  • Assorted hardware: nuts; nails; washers; small metal plates; eye hooks, small screw; s-hooks; bottle caps
  • Assorted game pieces: poker chips; small dice; small dominoes; miniature plastic animals; plastic parachute man; scrabble tiles; round bingo markers; small jacks.

  • Sponge
  • Bucket
  • Plastic spoon and knife
  • Toothpick
  • Rags
  • 1. Apply sealer to pot. Let dry.
  • 2. Use plastic knife to apply a layer of adhesive to one section of the outer pot, leaving rim and base uncovered. It should be the thickness of a light layer of frosting. Press one group of assorted items into the adhesive: beads and buttons, hardware and bottle caps or game pieces. Position pieces as close together as possible to create a colorful and interesting design. Continue applying adhesive and pressing in mixed media pieces until all sides of pot are covered. Make sure all pieces are well secured. Apply additional adhesive as needed, especially to bulky items. Invert pot and let dry.
  • 3. Apply grout over adhesive, keeping rim and base of pot clean. Working over bucket of water, use sponge to wipe away excess grout to reveal mixed media elements. Use toothpick or corner of rag to clean any plastic or metal pieces that are still covered with imbedded grout. Let pots air dry for 24 hours before lightly scrubbing them a final time.
