Pattern - Felt Dog & Cat Ornaments

  • 1. Print and cut out patterns. Cut felt as indicated.
  • 2. Use red floss to sew red beads to wreath front in four groups of three each. Pin wreath front to back, with right sides together; blanket stitch inner circle edges. Black stitch outer edges, lightly stuffing with fiberfill.
  • 3. For each ornament, pin following pieces together and blanket stitch with coordinating floss without stuffing: two paws; two ears; two tails. Set aside.
  • 4. For cat's face, use black floss to sew small black bead to head for nose and two beads for eyes. Make one straight stitch down from nose. Cut 8" black pearl cotton length and run through beeswax three times. Thread needle with coated cord and take small stitch under nose. Trim, leaving 1" on each side. Repeat for three whiskers.
  • 5. For dog's face, use black floss to sew large black bead to head for nose and two small beads for eyes. Make one straight stitch down from nose and three French knots on either side of nose.
  • 6. Pin head front and back together with ears inserted on sides about 3/16". Blanket stitch all around with coordinating floss, catching ends of ears in stitches and lightly stuffing head.
  • 7. Blanket stitch spots to dog.
  • 8. Pin body front and back together with tail inserted about 3/16" on one side as indicated on pattern. Blanket stitch all around with coordinating floss, catching end of tail in stitches and lightly stuffing body.
  • 9. To assemble ornament, glue two paws to bottom front of wreath; bottom of head over paws; top front of body to back of wreath and head.
  • 10. Cut ribbon in half and tie bows. Tack bow center to top back of wreath. Fold ribbon tails and trim ends in "V".
  • 11. For hanger, thread 9" red pearl cotton length in needle and take small stitch at top back of ornament; knot.
  • Note
  • 1. Use two strands of floss for all blanket stitching. Instructions for Dog and Cat ornaments are the same, except for faces and spots on dog.
