  • Cotton batting, 8-1/2”x8-1/2”

Basic Supplies

  • scissors, ruler, pencil, pins, iron and pressing surface
  • 1. Cut fabrics into various strips ranging from 1-1/4" to 1-3/4" wide by 8" long. With right sides facing, machine-sew strips together, creating patchwork square. Press seams open. From patchwork, cut 8-1/2"x8-1/2" square.
  • 2. On work surface, layer patchwork square, batting, and backing fabric. Pin along edges. Stitch in the ditch between each fabric strip. Machine-sew 3/4" from edges around pot holder.
  • 3. Starting at one corner, machine-sew from one corner to other corner. Repeat sewing, creating machine-sewn "X".
  • 4. Cut 1/2" slits around all edges to fringe, being careful to not clip machine stitching.
  • 5. Wet fabric and dry in dryer, creating ragged edges.
  • 6. Repeat process to create additional pot holders.
  • Tip
  • 1. Add appliqué pieces, trims, and embellishments utilizing fabric and sewing stash.
