Materials

  • Painter’s Paradise metal container with wooden lid (#1204190)
  • DecoArt Americana Acrylic Paints: Lamp Black, Bleached Sand, Flesh Tone, Rookwood Red, Titanium White, Santa Red, Neutral Grey, Camel, Light Cinnamon, Avocado, Plantation Pine

  • Princeton Select Paintbrushes: flat #12, short liner 10/0, angular shader 5/8”, filbert #6, Jo Sonja’s Sure Touch Oval Drybrush #8; Loew-Cornell™ Series 7520 Filbert Rake 1/4”
  • Small star stencil
  • Delta Ceramcoat Matte Sealer

Directions

  • 1. Basecoat surface of lid Lamp Black using #12 flat. Let dry.
  • 2. Print out patterns. Transfer pattern onto lid.
  • 3. Basecoat face Flesh using #8 filbert. Fill in hat Santa Red. Once dry, lightly shade rim of hat and down side of hat Black using angular shader. Shade around cheeks and bottom of nose using same angular shader.
  • 4. Fill in eyes and eyelashes Lamp Black using 10/0 short liner. Let dry. Shade bottom of eyes watery mix of Titanium White using 5/8” angular shader.
  • 5. Basecoat hair and beard watery mix of Neutral Grey using 1/4” filbert rake. (Note: Add several coats until desired look is achieved.) Let dry completely. Add white hairs on beard and face using same brush with watery mix of Titanium White. (Note: Add only small amount white so grey base will show through.)
  • 6. Pounce fluffy rim on hat and ball on hat top Bleach Sand and #8 drybrush. Let dry completely. Once dry, lightly shade sides and bottom of fluffy rim on hat and ball Light Cinnamon using 5/8” angular shader.
  • 7. Dot eyes and highlight on nose Titanium White using 10/0 short liner.
  • 8. Basecoat holly leaves Avocado using #6 filbert. Let dry. Shade leaves Plantation Pine using 5/8” angular shader.
  • 9. Use star stencil and #8 drybrush to fill in stars Camel. Shade bottom of stars Light Cinnamon using 5/8” angular shader. Let dry. Add highlight dots around stars Titanium White using stylus.
  • 10. Paint squares around outer rim Rookwood Red using #12 flat. Let dry.
  • 11. Apply three coats matte sealer.
