  • 1. Row 1: With Coffee, ch 2, 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook, ch 1, turn. (2 sc)

  • 1. Row 1: With Black and using E hook for small pads and toes, ch 2, 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook, ch 1, turn. (2 sc)
  • 2. Row 2: 2 sc in each sc, ch 1, turn. (4 sc)
  • 3. Row 3: Sc in each sc across, ch 1, turn. (4 sc)
  • 4. Row 4-5: Sc in each sc across, 2 sc in last sc, ch 1, turn. (5, 6 sc)
  • 5. Row 6: Rep Row 3. (6 sc)
  • 6. Row 7: Sc in first 3 sc leaving last 3 sc unworked, ch 1, turn. (3 sc)
  • 7. Row 8: Rep Row 3. (3 sc)
  • 8. Row 9: Sc all 3 sc tog, fasten off. (1 sc)
  • 9. Row 10: Join with sc in first unworked st of Row 6, sc in next 2 sc, ch 1, turn.
  • 10. Rows 11-12: Rep Rows 8 and 9. At end of Row 12, do not fasten off; *ch 1, sc evenly all way around working (sc, ch 1, sc) in tip and sl st in dip of heart, join with sl st to first sc, rep from * once, fasten off.
  • Hearts (make 2)
  • 1. With E hook and Burgundy, rep instructions for small paw pad.
  • Rectangles (make 2 Country Blue, 2 Buff)
  • 1. Row 1: (RS) With G hook, ch 32, sc in 2nd ch from hook, (dc in next ch, sc in next ch) across, ch 1, turn. (16 sc, 15 dc)
  • 2. Rows 2-28: (sc in next st, dc in next st) across ending with sc in last st, ch 1, turn. At end of Row 28, fasten off. (16 sc, 15 dc)
  • Long Rectangle (make 1)
  • 1. With Grey Heather, rep instructions for other rectangles for 56 rows instead of 28 rows.
  • Layout and Finishing
  • 1. Arrange appliqués on rectangles as shown; adhere in place using fabric glue. Attach using yarn needle and running stitch.
  • 2. Press rectangles lightly with warm steam iron, placing double thickness of cloth between iron and work. Block rectangles to shape; let dry.
  • 3. Lay out blanket from left to right as follows: blue rectangle on top, buff on bottom, grey long rectangle in center, buff on top, blue on bottom. Join rectangles together with whipstitch using yarn needle and length of yarn.
  • Border
  • 1. Rnd 1: Join Grey Heather with sc in any corner of blanket, 2 sc in same st, sc evenly all way around blanket working 3 sc in each corner, join with sl st to first sc.
  • 2. Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in same sc, 3 sc in next sc, (corner), sc in each sc around working 3 sc in center sc of each corner 3-sc group, join with sl st to first sc, fasten off.
  • 3. Rnd 3: Join burgundy with sc in center sc of next corner 3-sc group, 2 sc in same sc, (ch 1, sk next sc, sc in next sc) all way around blanket working 3 sc in each corner, join with sl st to first sc adjusting stitches if necessary.
  • 4. Rnd 4: Ch 1, working from left to right, reverse sc in each sc or ch st all way around blanket, join with sl st to first st; fasten off and weave in ends.
