Lavender & Lace Ornament

Materials

  • Frosted glass ornament, 2-1/2” to 2-3/4”
  • Seed beads (Toho): Silver Metallic, Size 150, 10 grams; Silver Galvanized, Size 110, 10 grams; Lavender Matte, Size 110, 10 grams; Lavender Silver-lined, Size 60, 20 grams; Iris Purple, Size 60, 10 grams; Treasure: Purple, 3 grams
  • CZ-Gem Dropz: Lavender Round One- Hole, 6mm, 2 pkgs.
  • Silver “F” Round Lightweight Jump Rings*, 3.5mm, 1 pkg.
  • Silver “L” Style 5-Hole Wave Spacers*, 1 pkg.
  • Silver “A” Style 3-to-3, 3-D Knot Connectors*, 6.5x11mm, 1 pkg.
  • Crème Nymo Thread*, Size D (.30mm), one 64-yd. bobbin

Tools

  • Flexible “D” Fine Collapsible-eye Needles*, 2.5”, 1 pkg.
  • Chain-Nose Pliers*
  • Jump Ring Tool*

Directions

  • 1. Use chain-nose pliers and jump ring tool to gently open 24 lightweight jump rings. (see photos)
  • 2. Use one jump ring to attach a CZ-Gem Dropz to one end of 3-D knot silver connector. Attach jump ring to opposite end of connector and one jump ring to last hole on 5-hole wave spacer. Line last two jump rings together to complete dangle. (see photos)
  • 3. Repeat Step 2 to make a total of eight dangles. To begin stringing, measure 7 feet of Nymo thread, and add a fine collapsible eye needle. (Beads: Size 150 = small; size 110 = medium; size 60 = large.) (see photos)
  • 4. Leaving 6” tail, string: 4 medium silver, 1 large lavender, and repeat for a total of 8 sets. (see photos)
  • 5. Tie the working thread and the tail thread together to form a ring. (see photos)
  • 6. String: 3 small silver; 1 Treasure; 3 medium silver; 1 Treasure; 1 medium lavender; 1 medium silver; 1 large lavender; 1 medium silver; 1 large purple iris; 1 medium silver; 1 large lavender; 1 medium silver; 1 medium lavender; 1 Treasure; 3 medium silver; 1 Treasure; 3 small silver; 1 Treasure; 1 medium lavender; the empty end hole of a dangle unit. Reverse stringing order and repeat. Skip 4 medium silver on the ring and pass through the next large lavender, exit for the next step. (see photos)
  • 7. Repeat Step 6, stringing dangle with flat front of CZ-Gem Dropz facing up. Skip 4 medium silver on the ring and pass through the next large lavender, exit for the next step. (see photos)
  • 8. Repeat to add a total of 8 beaded loops with dangles. To position the thread for the next step, pass through the first series of beads added in Step 6 again to exit from the last medium lavender before the dangle. (see photos)
  • 9. Pass through the same end hole on the 5-hole wave spacer between the medium lavender beads to position thread for the first swag. This is now referred to as the “first hole.” Do not split the thread already in position as you pass through the first hole. (see photos)
  • 10. Drape the beadwork over a spare ornament to avoid scratching the “good” ornament. The thread exits to the right of the first dangle. Quick Tip: The jump ring tool makes a handy stand to keep the ornament from rolling. (see photos)
  • 11. For Round One swags, string: 3 small silver; 1 Treasure; 3 medium silver; 1 large lavender; 1 medium silver; 1 large purple iris; 1 medium silver; 1 large lavender; 3 medium silver; 1 Treasure; 3 small silver. (see photos)
  • 12. Pass needle from left to right through first hole on next dangle to the right. Do not split thread already in position as you pass through the first hole. For lock stitch (indicated by arrow in Fig. 12), without adding any beads pass the needle from left to right through the first hole again. Do not split the thread already in position as you pass through the first hole for the lock stitch. Pull the thread to bring the first swag into position and the Lock Stitch will hold it in place.   • 13. Repeat Steps 11-12 to add a total of 8 Round One swags around the ornament. After stringing the last swag, pass through the first hole on the first dangle and make a lock stitch to complete Round One. (see photos)
  • 14. Without adding any beads pass the needle from right to left through the second hole to position thread for Round Two Swags. (see photos)
  • 15. For Round Two swags, string: 5 small silver; 1 Treasure; 3 medium silver; 1 large lavender; 1 medium silver; 1 large purple iris; 1 medium silver; 1 large lavender; 3 medium silver; 1 Treasure; 5 small silver. (see photos)
  • 16. Pass from right to left through the second hole on the next dangle to the left. Make a lock stitch and draw the thread to bring the first Round Two swag into position. (see photos)
  • 17. Repeat Steps 15-16 to complete a total of 8 Round Two swags around the ornament. After stringing the last swag pass through the second hole on the first dangle and make a lock stitch to complete round two. (see photos)
  • 18. Without adding any beads pass the needle from left to right through the third hole to position thread for Round Three swags. (see photos)
  • 19. For Round Three swags, string: 7 small silver; 1 Treasure; 3 medium silver; 1 large lavender; 1 medium silver; 1 large purple iris; 1 medium silver; 1 large lavender; 3 medium silver; 1 Treasure; 7 small silver. (see photos)
  • 20. Pass from left to right through the third hole on the next dangle to the right. (see photos)
  • 21. Make a lock stitch and draw the thread to bring the first Round Three swag into position. Repeat Steps 19-20 to complete a total of eight Round Three swags around the ornament. After stringing the last swag pass through the third hole on the first dangle and make a lock stitch to complete Round Three. (see photos)
  • 22. Without adding any beads pass the needle from right to left through the fourth hole to position thread for Round Four swags. (see photos)
  • 23. For Round Four swags, string: 7 small silver; 1 Treasure; 3 medium silver; 1 large lavender; 1 medium silver; 1 large lavender; 1 medium silver; 1 large purple iris; 1 medium silver; 1 large lavender; 1 medium silver; 1 large lavender; 3 medium silver; 1 Treasure; 7 small silver.   • 24. Pass from right to left through the fourth hole on the next dangle to the left. Make a lock stitch and draw the thread to bring the first Round Four swag into position. (see photos)
  • 25. Repeat Steps 23-24 to complete a total of eight Round Four swags around the ornament. After stringing the last swag pass through the fourth hole on the first dangle and make a lock stitch to complete Round Four. Pass thread through several beads, knot, pass through to next dangle and knot, and pass through several beads and trim. Add a needle to tail thread, pass through several beads around ring and trim. Place beaded swag onto ornament. (see photos)
