Directions

  • So Tweet Card
  • 1. Gather supplies within arm’s reach. Following tool manufacturer’s instructions, stamp branch and both birds onto clear stamp positioner sheet. See Fig. 1. (see photos)
  • 2. Stamp nest onto watercolor paper and again onto masking sheet. See Fig. 2. (see photos)
  • 3. Carefully cut out stamped nest from masking sheet, cutting slightly inside outline to avoid halo effect. Don’t worry about cutting off fine lines. See Fig. 3. (see photos)
  • 4. Peel backing from mask and carefully place over stamped image on watercolor paper. Position clear stamp sheet with branch under masked nest as desired. Line up stamp positioner, remove clear sheet, and stamp branch over nest mask. See Figs. 4 and 5. (see photos)
  • 5. Use stamp positioner to stamp birds on branch and nest as shown in Fig. 6; be sure right bird’s tail clears branch. (see photos)
  • 6. Following manufacturer’s instructions, carefully apply masking fluid to birds and branch; use small paintbrush to spread fluid into smallest areas. Avoid masked nest. Let fluid dry completely. See Fig. 7. (see photos)
  • 7. Color sky with blue watercolor crayon, drawing around branch, nest, and birds. Use water brush to blend and spread color. Add more color by touching brush to crayon tip. Continue until pleased with effect. See Fig. 8. Let dry completely. (see photos)
  • 8. Use finger to rub off dry masking fluid. Remove tape mask and store with stamp for re-use. See Fig. 9. (see photos)
  • 9. Using photo and Fig. 10 as guides, color stamped image using watercolor pencils; blend colors with water brush. (see photos)
  • 10. Cut gray card stock to 5-1/4”x8”; score and fold in half. Cut 2-1/2”x3-3/4” striped paper piece and 3-1/2”x3-3/4” piece from floral side of paper; sand edges. Adhere to card as shown, overlapping edges and leaving 1/8” border.
  • 11. Punch label from floral side of paper, sand edges, and dry brush center with acrylic paint; let dry. Stamp sentiment on label. Adhere label to card. Adhere ribbon over paper seam. Thread buttons with waxed floss; adhere to ribbon.
  • 12. Trim dry stamped image to 2-1/4”x3-5/8” and adhere to card.
  • Happy Bird Day Card
  • 1. Follow general instructions for So Tweet Card, stamping images on card stock instead of watercolor paper. Stamp cat and mask with tape. Stamp birdbath and birds. See Fig. 11. (see photos)
  • 2. Color cat, birds, and water in birdbath with pencils, keeping color toward outer edges. Use blending stump dipped in brush cleaner to blend color into center of images. Color birdbath with markers.
  • 3. Mask base of birdbath and cat’s lower quarter with tape; straight edge separates sky from horizon. Use pompom in stencil clip to apply two shades of blue chalk to sky; when pleased, rub over chalk with tissue or cotton ball to blend. Remove mask and color grass in same way with green chalk. See Figs. 12 and 13. (see photos)
  • 4. Cut and fold card; cover with dot paper and stripe paper. Ink edges blue. Die cut blue frame, ink edges blue, and adhere to card. Die cut orange ribbon slide and stamp black sentiment. Thread ribbon through slide and adhere over paper seam.
