Cable Knit Fingerless Gloves


Keep your hands warm this winter but still use your fingers with ease! Follow these easy instructions to knit a stylish pair of fingerless gloves for your hands.

Materials

  • Coats & Clark Red Heart Soft Yarn: Leaf

Abbreviations

approx = approximately
beg = begin(ning)
C4B = Slip next 2 sts on to a cable needle and hold to back of work; k2, k2 from cable needle
dec = decrease(s)
k = knit
M1 = (make 1 stitch) – pick up horizontal strand of yarn lying between stitch just worked and next st. Knit this st.
p = purl
pat(s) = pattern(s)
PM = place marker
rem = remaining
rep = repeat
st st = stockinette stitch
st(s) = stitches
yo = yarn over

  • What To Do
  • 1. CO 36.
  • 2. Rnd 1: PM and join sts in round being careful not to twist. ** P1, k4, * p2, k4; rep from * to last st, p1.
  • 3. Rnd 2: P1, k4, * p2, k4, rep from * to last st, p1.
  • 4. Rnds 3, 4 & 5: Rep Rnd 2.
  • 5. Rnd 6: P1, C4B, * p2, C4B; rep to last st, p1. Rep from ** through Rnd 6 once more. Rep from ** through Rnd 5 once more.
  • 6. Rnd 18: P1, k4, p2, C4B, * p2, K4 * repeat to last st, p1.
  • 7. Rnd 19: K5, p2, k4, p2, knit to end of round (this will create a st st palm). Rep Rnd 19, 3 more times.
  • 8. Rnd 23: Begin thumb gusset. Work Rnd 19 adding sts where indicated for right or left thumb gusset.
  • Right Thumb
  • 1. Rnd 23: Knit over 20 sts in pat, PM, M1, M1, PM, work to end. Every other row (Rnds 25, 27, 29, 31, 33) inc 1 st after first marker and 1 st before second marker. Continue until you have 12 sts between markers, then place those sts on a holder.
  • Left Thumb
  • 1. Rnd 23: Knit over 34 sts in pat, PM, M1, M1, PM, work to end of round. Every other row inc 1 st after first marker and 1 st before second marker. Continue until you have 12 sts between markers, then place those sts on a holder. Rep Row 1 twice more. Bind off in pat.
  • Glove
  • 1. Rnd 24: K5, p2, C4B, p2, k to end of round.
  • 2. Rnds 25-29: K5, p2, k4, p2, k to end of round. Rep Rnds 24-29 once more. Rep Rnd 24 once more.
  • 3. Rnds 37-38: K5, p2, k4, p2, k to end of round.
  • 4. Rnds 39-41: P1, k4, * p2, k4, rep from * to last st, p1.
  • 5. Rnd 42: P1, C4B, * p2, C4B, rep from * to last st, p1.
  • 6. Rnds 43-46: P1, k4, * p2, k4, rep from * to last st, p1. Bind off in pattern.
  • Thumb
  • 1. Pick up 12 sts from holder and 4 sts along hole at top of thumb. Work 3 rnds of st st, then 3 rounds of 1x1 ribbing (k1, p1). Bind off in pattern.
  • Finishing
  • 1. Weave in all ends.
