Directions

  • 1. Make 4-1/4"x5-1/2" olive top-fold card; set aside.
  • 2. To create background, randomly place small puddles of paint onto gelatin plate; see Photo 1. Less is more, so remove excess paint before proceeding to Step 3. (see photos)
  • 3. Gently brayer over paint puddles, completely covering surface of plate; see Photo 2. (see photos)
  • 4. Place woodgrain texture plate over paint; lightly brayer over plate to imprint texture. Clean texture plate. Repeat process with stencil; see Photo 3. Clean stencil. (see photos)
  • 5. Press watercolor paper onto paint-covered gelatin plate; see Photo 4. (see photos)
  • 6. Carefully remove paper from plate, lifting one corner and peeling straight up; see Photo 5. Let dry completely. (see photos)
  • 7. Add a bit more white paint to design left on gelatin plate. Brayer paint over surface, and repeat Steps 4 and 5 using clean sheet of watercolor paper to create lighter "ghosting" effect; see Photo 6. Let dry completely. (see photos)
  • 8. Cut 3-1/2"x4-3/4" panel from darker background sheet. Randomly stencil Peeled Paint ink dots over panel; let dry. Use ink blending tool to lightly brush surface with Gathered Twigs ink; let dry.
  • 9. Stamp black images onto background panel as shown; distress paper edges. Mat panel on black cardstock, distress edges, and adhere panel to card.
  • 10. Repeat Step 8 with lighter background sheet. Stamp black sentiment, trim to size, and distress edges. Mat on black cardstock, distress edges, and adhere to card with foam dots.
  • Tip
  • 1. Each sheet of watercolor paper created using this technique is called a monoprint. That means that you can't print the exact same design twice; every sheet will be unique.
