Zooey Table and Chair Set


Materials

  • Table and chair set (any unfinished set or set found from garage sale will work)

Directions

  • Preparation
  • 1. Whether your table/chair set is painted or unfinished, lightly sand surface areas that will be painted. Wipe dust. (Optional: Prime table and chairs with indoor/outdoor paint.)
  • 2. Use 2” sponge brush and follow manufacturer’s directions to paint table top with Chalkboard Paint. Apply multiple coats and apply in different directions for each coat. In same manner, use 1” sponge brush to paint back top section of each chair. Use Winter White to paint front top section of chair and chair seats.
  • 3. Use photo as guide to paint chair rungs and legs in following colors: Pink, Coastal Blue (for boy), Fresh Foliage, Glazed Carrots, Lemon Custard, and Sweetheart Pink (for girl). Use photo as guide to paint table legs in any above listed colors.
  • 4. Use painter’s tape to mask off 2” border around table top and 1” border around chair seat tops. Use 1” sponge brush to paint borders Buttercrunch. Use liner and thinned Honeycomb to paint wood grain lines on borders and use thinned Taffy to add wood grain highlights; add knot hole if desired.
  • 5. Print patterns. Transfer monkey and giraffe outlines onto table top as shown and on legs, transfer bees, butterfly, ladybugs, and snake. Transfer bird outlines onto chair seats placing boy and girl birds on appropriate chairs. For boy’s chair, transfer lizard and ladybugs on front top section, and for girl’s chair transfer flower and leaves. Transfer design work to chair backs and transfer ladybugs and bees on chair legs.
  • Boy’s Chair
  • 1. Bird: Use #10 shader and Coastal Blue to base head and neck; shade Blue Ribbon and highlight Baby Blue. Use same colors to paint top feather tuft; line stems Coastal Blue. Use #2 shader to base eyeballs Winter White. Base iris Fresh Foliage; shade Grass Green and highlight Lemon Custard. Base pupil Wrought Iron and highlight Lemon Custard. Add Winter White highlight dot to each pupil. Use liner to add Wrought Iron eyebrows and short eyelashes. (see photos)
  • 2. Use #10 shader and Lemon Custard to paint tip of beak; shade Glazed Carrots and highlight Taffy. Paint remainder of beak Glazed Carrots; shade Cinnamon and highlight Lemon Custard. Use liner to add two Lemon Custard stripes. Use #12 shader and Pink to paint inside of mouth; shade Lipstick Red. Base “lip” Glazed Carrots; shade Cinnamon and highlight Lemon Custard. Use #10 shader to base tie Fresh Foliage; shade Grass Green and highlight Lemon Custard.
  • 3. Lizard: Use #10 shader and round brush. Base Fresh Foliage; shade Grass Green and highlight Lemon Custard. Use #4 shader to base eyeballs Winter White and shade Baby Blue. Dot Wrought Iron pupils. Use liner to add zigzags in Sweetheart Pink, Glazed Carrots, and Lemon Custard. Add Glazed Carrots dots to ends of each toe.
  • 4. Ladybug: Use #4 shader to base body Lipstick Red; shade Cinnamon and highlight Lemon Custard. Use round brush to paint head Wrought Iron and “V” section of body. Use Wrought Iron and stylus to add dots on body; use liner to add legs and antennae and stylus to dot end of antennae.
  • 5. Chair Back Accent Designs: For orange rung, add Lemon Custard angle stripes. For blue rung, add wavy Blue Ribbon line and dip-dots. For yellow rung, add Lipstick Red dip dots.
  • 6. Bee: Use #4 shader to base body Lemon Custard; shade Cinnamon and highlight Taffy. Use #10 shader to float Winter White wings. Use liner to add Wrought Iron stripes and legs, and use stylus to dot eye.
  • Girl’s Chair
  • 1. Bird: Use #10 shader and Sweetheart Pink to base head and neck; shade Pink and highlight Georgia Peach. Use liner to paint hair tuft in Pink, Sweetheart Pink, and Georgia Peach; use stylus to dot ends. Use #2 shader to base eyeballs Winter White. Base iris Coastal Blue; shade Ribbon Blue and highlight Baby Blue. Base pupil Wrought Iron and highlight Lemon Custard. Add Winter White highlight dot to each pupil. Use liner to add Wrought Iron eyebrows and long eyelashes. (see photos)
  • 2. Use #10 shader to base beak Fresh Foliage; shade Green Grass and highlight Lemon Custard. Use liner to add three Pink zigzag stripes. Use #12 shader and Pink to paint inside of mouth; shade Lipstick Red. Base lips Lipstick Red; shade Cinnamon and highlight Georgia Peach. Use #4 shader to base pearls Winter White; shade Baby Blue.
  • 3. Chair Back Accent Designs: For yellow rung, add Foliage Green vine and leaves; add random Lipstick Red dip-dots. For orange rung, add Winter White zigzag. For green rung, add Baby Blue vertical and horizontal lines.
  • 4. Flower: Use #10 shader to base Blue Ribbon; shade Wrought Iron and highlight Baby Blue. Use liner to add Wrought Iron and Baby Blue vein lines coming from center out. Use round brush and Lemon Custard to tap in flower centers; shade Glazed Carrots and highlight Taffy.
  • 5. Use #10 shader to base leaves Fresh Foliage; shade Grass Green and highlight Lemon Custard. Use round brush to add Foliage Green vines between leafs and flower.
  • 6. Ladybug and Bee: Paint in same manner as “Boy’s Chair”.
  • Table
  • 1. Giraffe: Use #12 shader and Lemon Custard to base neck, head, and ears; shade Cinnamon and highlight Winter White. Base spots Honeycomb. For mane, dip fan brush alternately into Cinnamon and Taffy and pull away from neck. Shade Wrought Iron along neck. Use #4 shader and Cinnamon to paint hair tuft; shade with mix of Cinnamon + Wrought Iron (2:1) and highlight Taffy. Use liner to add streaks of Taffy. Use #4 shader to base antlers Honeycomb; shade Cinnamon and highlight Winter White. (see photos)
  • 2. Use #4 shader to base eyeballs Winter White; shade Baby Blue. Use #2 shader to base iris Fresh Foliage; shade Grass Green. Base pupils Wrought Iron and highlight Taffy on right side. Use liner to add Wrought Iron eyebrows and eyelashes. Use round brush to paint Wrought Iron nostrils. Use #2 shader to base inside of mouth Pink; shade Sweetheart Pink. Use round brush to paint teeth Winter White; shade Baby Blue.
  • 3. Monkey: Use #10 shader and Honeycomb to base head, ears, body, and tail; shade Cinnamon and highlight Taffy. Use same brush and Taffy to base hands and muzzle; shade Cinnamon and highlight Winter White. Use #4 shader to base teeth Winter White; shade Baby Blue. Use liner and thinned Baby Blue to add lines between teeth. Use round brush to paint nose Wrought Iron. Use #10 shader to base eyeballs Winter White; shade Baby Blue. Add Wrought Iron pupils.
  • 4. Leaves and Vines (on table top and legs): Use #12 shader to base each leaf Fresh Foliage; shade Grass Green and highlight Lemon Custard. Use same brush and Cinnamon to shade under each leaf.
  • 5. Dragonfly (on table top and one leg): Use round brush to base body Wrought Iron; highlight Winter White. Use #4 shader to base wings with one coat Winter White for transparent color; shade Baby Blue. Add Wrought Iron antennae.
  • 6. Flowers: For table top, use #10 shader to base Baby Blue; shade Blue Ribbon and highlight Winter White. Use liner to add Winter White and Blue Ribbon vein lines coming from center out. Use round brush and Lemon Custard to tap in flower centers; shade Glazed Carrots and highlight Winter White. Paint flower on leg in same manner as flower on “Girl’s Chair”.
  • 7. Ladybug: Paint in same manner as “Boy’s Chair”. Shade around each ladybug with mix of Green Grass + Wrought Iron (3:1).
  • 8. Bee: Paint in same manner as “Boy’s Chair”. Shade Lipstick Red around bee.
  • 9. Butterfly: Use #10 shader to base wings Coastal Blue; shade Blue Ribbon and highlight Baby Blue. Use paintbrush handle to add Lemon Custard circles. Use liner and Fresh Foliage to add curved line near tip end of each wing. Use round brush to base body Wrought Iron; highlight Winter White. Line Wrought Iron antennae. Use #12 shader to float Lipstick Red behind entire butterfly.
  • 10. Snake: Use #12 shader to float Blue Ribbon behind entire snake. Use #10 shader to base Fresh Foliage; shade Grass Green along both sides and around eyes. Use #4 shader to base eyes Winter White; dot Wrought Iron pupils. Use liner and thinned Wrought Iron to paint eyeglasses and eyebrows. Line Lipstick Red tongue. Use stylus to randomly dot Sweetheart Pink dots on body.
  • Finishing
  • 1. Use 2” foam brush to apply several varnish coats over painted designs avoiding chalkboard paint.
