Clay Holly Bowl
- Glass potpourri bowl, 7”
- Studio by Sculpey*: Clay: Evergreen; Pomegranate; Chocolate Brown Antiquing Medium; Super Satin Glaze
- Studio by Sculpey*: ShapeMakers: Leaf Set I; 5-in-1 Clay Tool
- Soft paint brush
- Clay-dedicated pasta machine or Studio by Sculpey Acrylic Roller
- Glass or ceramic work surface
- Parchment-lined baking sheet
- Toaster oven
- 1. Follow manufacturer's instructions to condition 12 blocks of Evergreen clay. Roll clay into flat sheet using fourth largest setting on pasta machine. If using acrylic roller instead, roll clay to 1/16" thick.
- 2. Use small holly-shaped leaf cutter to cut 10 leaves from Evergreen sheet.
- 3. Use needle tool to draw vein on each leaf.
- 4. Pinch wide edge of each leaf together and attach ends in pairs.
- 5. Condition four blocks of Pomegranate clay.
- 6. Pinch off small pieces of clay and roll 15 pea-sized balls for berries. (Note: For same-sized berries, condition clay into flat sheet and use small cutter in any shape to cut 15 identical pieces of clay before rolling into berries.)
- 7. Arrange three berries in center of each pair of holly leaves.
- 8. Adhere finished holly pieces to rim of clean, glass bowl, overlapping leaves as shown.
- 9. Follow manufacturer's instructions to back bowl in oven. Let cool completely in oven before removing.
- 10. Gently remove holly ring from top of bowl. If clay, however, is already securely adhered to glass bowl, leave baked clay in place for remaining steps.
- 11. Use paintbrush to apply a generous coat of antiquing medium to surface of leaves and berries.
- 12. Wipe excess medium from surface with a slightly damp paper towel.
- 13. Clean brush with water for next step. When patina is dry, use brush to apply coat of satin glaze over clay leaves and berries.
- 14. Apply glue at all points where underside of leaves touches glass bowl to secure.
