“Paint and sip” businesses have grown over the past few years. The concept is one all of us creators can get on board with: Socializing with friends, drinking wine and painting a blank canvas. Most of these businesses operate in a studio, although some host their painting events in partnering restaurants, bars or other venues.
Gallery on the Go has a slightly different take on the biz — they come to you, which makes it a little cheaper and easier to gather. I was able to meet Mandy from the GOTG team last year at a trade show and learn all about their model.
Here's how it works: You invite the friends, provide the table, chairs, and refreshments, and pick the painting. Gallery on the Go takes care of the rest. (Table and floor coverings, setup, instruction and cleanup. A painter setup includes a table-top easel, five-piece brush set, 10-well paint palette, water cup and apron.) These parties are only $26 per painter and the hostess paints free if there are at least 5 painters. They offer more than 100 painting designs to choose from.
In addition, the GOTG gang can host fundraising events — your organization will earn 50 percent of the profit. They also offer kids parties — I may have to host one for my daughter’s next birthday. (How cool would it be for the kids to leave with a painted canvas instead of the “treasures” they usually receive from the proverbial goodie bag?)
If you’re interested in taking this a step further, they also offer opportunities to become a “paintpreneur”. You can lead the GOTG charge in your area and start your own business for some extra income AND fun — all tailored to your own schedule.
